There are 2 check valves: One in the charcoal canister and one in the gas cap.

These are there to regulate flow to the charcoal canister and prevent vacuum in the tank...the fuel feeding the pump needs to be under positive pressure (2 psi iirc) to prevent cavitation. The check valves are there to make that happen.

thanks jdub ill put in a 2psi check valve on the vent line and dump the line at the rear of the car. right now it vents in the engine bay but i wasnt sure what to do with it.

(note this is just on my race car that gets driven twice a month and thats it. my daily supra has the canister still on)

I'd figure out how to get a charcoal canister hooked up somehow to stop fumes from escaping.

No matter where they are it's still a risk you don't want to take...

While I agree with Poodles concerning the need for the CC, you need to use a pressure relief valve that releases at 2-3 psi...might be hard to find one that low. Make very sure the end of the vent line is far, far away from any heat or potential ignition source.

Not necessary...it's really easy to mount under the plastic wheel well and just route the lines to it.

is there much difference between models/makes of charcoal canister? like could i use a 80 chevy canister? they all have 3 lines, i assume one for vacuum, one to the tank, and one for venting.

If you're feeling up for it.

There's a few hondas that have a tiny one that can be installed under the fenderwell.

But in california we have evap tests so i'm just keeping the stocker.

Be really careful if you source a CC from another check to make sure it has a 1 way check valve so it doesn't pump boost into it and explode.

I wandered around a junk yard looking at different ones and found many don't have the valve (anything NA really)

ok, well my charcoal canister was removed a few months back... after reading this i wish i still had it to put back on.. my car seems to idle lean, would this be the cause of that? what if for now i pluged the lines that were going to the canister? would that keep the pressure in the tank?
