Changing shifter boot

Greetings...

I'm going to be changing out my old, torn shifter boot for a nice new 'real' leather one I bought on eBay. I was just wanting to know about what glue I should use to secure it to the plastic ring at the top of the shifter and the metal ring at the base. I have Gorilla Glue, but it doesn't specifically say it will work on leather to metal. I was just looking for some input from you guys as to want has worked for you.

Can you provide a link to this one you bought on ebay? Your shifter has a tapered shaft, so if the boot is constructed correctly, the top will only go so far down. It needs to be able to move, because it goes to different locations for each gear.

It should also have a squared bottom that fits into the console piece to hold it down.

Empera on here sells very nice replacements for a good price, as well as E-brake handles and arm rest covers.

Hi... I actually bought this a couple of years ago, shifter and hand brake boots, from a company, I believe it was Bonny Buttons. It is the exact dimensions and construction as the original. I was very impressed with the construction.

You have to remove the black console piece. To do that, you remove the shift knob, pull out the ash tray, then two screws above there and two screws from the sides in there, and one screw on the side somewhere near the shifter. After that, the rest is clips. There are two clips at the end behind the shifter, two in the bend, and two or three at the top. One in each corner, and maybe one in the middle of the top. While pulling it off, pull towards you, then up as the shifter binds it. While doing that, you will need to disconnect the connector to the emergency light switch, and anything else that your car might have there. This can all be done in 5 minutes or so, it's not hard. Just be careful pulling on it, as they like to break at the bend.

Next, there are two screws holding the shift boot to the underside. Once they are out, you can slide the other end out from under a channel.

I took mine out this morning, and I pulled a wire loose, and have to fix that soon. I can take pictures if this didn't paint the picture well enough.

Ya, if the replacement doesn't have the ring, you might want to have an upholstery shop sew it in.

I have a black/blue shift boot. I bought the car with no shift boot, so no ring; I just folded mine down, like a sheath with some of the black shifter sticking out, I kinda like it that way...

looks like a rolled up sleeve..

I bought one from the local parts store, black with red stitching. All I did was peel the old boot from the metal ring and put the new boot around the ring, since it had a garter on the bottom. Then, I put everything back together and it looks good now.

ebay boots suck and dun fit nor look right.
either way what i do with my boots is wrap the bottom onto the ring and use (lightly) contact cement...

ok... well thanks for the replies and comments... but... I know how to remove the boot. The shifter console is apart on my work bench. The quality of the boot that I bought off of eBay is great. It is a perfect match for the original and made of very high-grade, supple leather. I was just asking about the glue to use. Does anyone know if Gorilla Glue will work and hold on leather to metal and leather to plastic... or have alternative brand of glue that they've used?
