just wondering if anybody has attmepted to change the exhaust manifold gasket with the turbo still connected to the downpipe and exhaust manifold. so just unbolting the exhaust manifold and trying to slip the new gasket in, if you tried, did it work?

Not a chance.
You'll need to be able to clean off both mating surfaces, and that's just not going to happen while trying to hold the turbo / manifold / DP away from the engine.

Not going to get to all the manifold bolts with the turbo on anyway (or if you could, it would take MUCH longer, with more swear words and bloody knuckles)
