Hi all, I thought I might as well start a little thread for my forever ongoing project. The name "The Hated Eighty Six" comes from no love from other people for my 86, of coarse people say, "nice car" but what there really saying is, I don't want to make you feel bad about your car. Many people have told me to sell the car multiple times, I always say no thanks, I'll keep it.

I have had the car for almost two years, and have had a love hate relationship with it, mostly love. I looked at a few other cars before I purchased mine and none of them quite struck me like the MKIII Supra. So while scouring craigslist for a few days I came across a blue 1986.5 Supra. The ad said fresh JDM swap, metal head gasket, HKS exhaust and intake. Upon getting to his house, he said he would take less than the ad, at the time I thought nothing of it but a good deal. The guy said that the original 7M-GE blew a head gasket so he purchased a 7M-GTE through a local shop and had it all swapped in and it didn't work because the harness was different. So he purchased a "JDM" 7M-GE and had them swap that in. The guy told me it had a new OEM clutch and steel head gasket, witch I latter found out the MHG wasn't true among other things, when the head gasket blew in October of 2008.

This was my first head gasket job, it took me two weeks to get it done. I had the head refurbished and planned, I then ordered a gasket kit and studs from Driftmotion. The gasket kit was from a company called "Stone" I was really impressed with the quality of the kit. I used the head gasket in the kit, so far it has been great, I have put over 5,000 miles on it and no problems.

When I had it all back together I tried to get new vacuum lines, but no auto parts stores around had enough of what I needed so I had to buy silicon vacuum lines. They look good, but in the cold they harden up and two of the lines for the power steering pump pulled them selves shut from the vacuum. I would not recommend them to anyone who daily drives there car in winter.

As for plans for my car, I think I would like to mess with my NA for a little while longer, first things first, pull the existing engine as it has a knock, I think its a rod knock. In the past few weeks it has got much worse. I have put around 25,000 miles on it since I purchased it, the engine has had the knock ever since I picked the car up, that has to be record or something. :naughty:

But for future ideas, get a 1UZ-FE and put that in. I don't think I would ever turbocharge the 1UZ, if anything I would put a supercharger. I like the wirr of a belt drive supercharger. Anyway, I hope you enjoy, thanks.

Yea, I know what you mean. The head gasket job cost me around $600 in total, and to rebuild the bottom end and all the other new stuff that will have to go in when that happens, I will have a engine "worth" more than the car. hehehe!

Yea, I see what you mean about being turbo. A good friend of mine has a turbo, and its night and day. The good thing about the NA is I could really enjoy the car for what it was, not worrying about power adders and what not.

Got some stuff done today, I have been working on a gauge pod that goes under my radio. The idea behind it was to make a gauge pod that is directed towards me, this was my first time messing with fiberglass, its not perfect but I'm happy with it.

After a few layers of bondo and sanding:

Here is the frame I used, the prototype I made was out of paper. I just took the mock gauges and swapped them over to the real frame:

More sanding and bondo:

I removed the mock gauges, I have been looking for the correct hole saw but to no avail, so the pod will wait a little longer:

Next, I picked up a 4:30 LSD on ebay, my current diff is toast, clunks every gear shift and has a ton of play, today I cleaned it up and planned to paint it black, but I ran out of black paint, out of all the paint cans sitting there none had enough paint. I had to resort to red, I'm pleased with it though. All I have to do is wait for my new e-brake equipment and U-Joints then LSD will go in.

Received some monitoring devices from some local supramania members, thanks guys. I'm just having trouble on figuring out how to wire them in without butchering the existing harness. Any one have experience? Thanks.
