im definatly interested. You can count me in for sure as long as the completed piece is at least half as light as the orginal top and has all the provisions of the original top (rain gutters, weatherstripinng, etc.) so the parts can be transferred over. And of course great quality overall.

Most definatly the parts would be transferable

The sketch that you included makes alot of sense to me, I could see that working, but it will take a few trial runs to perfect it. Here are a few thoughts that come to my mind.

I was always against an aluminum Targa Brace because in order to get it as strong as steel the welds, gussets, etc. need to be alot bigger than an equal steel component. My thoughts here are you surely do not want something over someone's head to come apart during an accident and causing head injuries. But, the piece that you show looks like it would be big enough, and almost like a T-Top center section.

On the top, the rain gutters should be molded into the top. Where the rain gutters attach to the stock Targa is the biggest point of leakage.

do the rain gutters not hold the seal in place? We were looking at having them made as part of the top, but we thought it would be easier to use the stock rain gutters and seals.

Thats an intresting point about the aluminum top, i never thought of that. I will most definatly be asking many more questions before i order all the aluminum. The last thing i want is for a peice ive sold is to hurt someone in an accident

I come from a land down under
A well built Composite honeycomb Carbon Targa is going to be as strong as any brace that can be built but it's going to be expensive.

I'm with Lance on the "Don't build in head injuries".......

If you look at my Datto crash pics you can see the Roof has concertinaed down into the cabin causing face and head injuries, it would have been much worse with jagged aluminium struts.

if the brace were to be hollow, would structral foam in the middle make it stronger, and less likely to fail in an accident?

personnally, when i take the top off, i don't want anything there.:icon_bigg
Rajunz's targa brace is exceptional, a very nice piece of work. but i prefer jayhall's original idea!! imho of course!

I agree. I would definitely buy one at any price as long as when the targa is off I have nothing above my head. I enjoy a fully open top on a nice sunny day :icon_bigg. Any updates on this so far?

seeing how no one seemed intrested in doing a group buy, just buyinh when its ready i threw this on the back burner. I still plan on getting this done, i just have to front the money for it myself. I think im going to got with the structral foam idea, seems to be the safest and probably the most cost efficent
