Hey I just got my self a figlass stout hood now when I put it on yesterday I noticed ti had no holes to attach the gas struts.

The indentation is thers so I could drill the hole but then what would be my best option to attach them glue a nut in the hole for the strut to thread in to?

I also remeber reading at some point the stock struts maybe too stiff for a/m hoods because it does twist quite easy.

Or last option I see is have a pole hidden in the car or under the hood somewere to just prop it up on once again the flexing issue would one in the middle be fine or go for two at the front?

What have you guys used?

cheers scott

i would use the gas struts but be very carefull drilling out the carbon fiber as it splinters very easy...infact id use a dremel to drill it. also epoxy a nice strong washer on either side of the hole so it distributes the load....youll just have to be careful when opening and closing the hood.

I couldn't even leave the struts attached to my carbon fiber hood, it would just bend in the middle when you tried to close it. Hopefully they work a little better with fiberglass. If possible, you may want to look into finding some weaker struts.

don't use struts!!

they're too strong, even blown ones..

I grabbed a random hood prop out of a car at the junkyard and it holds up my CF hood just fine...

I actually use the hole cut out for my hood pin to prop it up, and as a bonus, i can position it like an OEM prop, the Supra has a hole for it, and the hood even shuts when it's positioned like normal..

I built a permanent moveable prop out of a golf club shaft. It's super light and always there when you need it.

what about getting a weaker strut made?

You think I haven't thought of this when I made the hoods? After all, the holes are there for your hood.

I had recalibrate struts made when I was making the CF hoods and it was still not great. The hood would still have a slight bend to it.

I saw those holes Duane. Those are the give away that you made your hoods with love.

What Im going to ask is if he can make the last 3 inches of the shock have no pressure at all. So there wont be any pressure when the hood is closed. So youd have to open the hood with no assistance until the hood is half open, then it will get just enough pressure to hold the hood up
