I stripped all the foam from my old dash and it looks pretty cool. But now Im thinking about putting a layer of Fiberglass or carbon fiber over it and making something unique for my car. Ive never had experience doing this so whats the best way of doing it? Is it possible?

Alright pics when I get home, Its gettin a little dark but they should be fine.

I did some reading on FG earlier and I think I can do a pretty good job after I get a little practice.

Laying up CF/FG on a surface will produce a rough surface and not look good. This type of construction will then entail bondo and lot of sanding and you wont get the CF look. To get good surface and CF look you will have to make a female mold from a prototype ie your old dash , hood , whatever. The prototype has to have flawless finish or it will transfer to mold then to your part. So to get that CF look takes a LOT of work. but if you do it you will have that one of a kind supra.

I know your going to post when you get home, but my dash has a crack in it, and I was wondering what it would look like stripped..........lol

Heres the pics I promised. Kinda late and the bat was low. All dusty from sitting for almost 6 months too.

Anyways it looks way nicer in person, mine is painted flat black (glared badly in the pics, its not glossy at all). Took maybe 5 hours with a razor blade and sand paper to get the old foam off. It has some pretty cool grooves in the top from the screw mounts.

I read a bunch of stuff on CF and FG. So im gonna get some practice in then hopefully make some nice full dash covers for my supras.

If I had a race car, I'd do that!
I'm not a fan otherwise. Probably looks much better in person, though, as you said...

since you have it stripped down to shell; what if you used spray on bed liner?

Its pretty light compared to the stock one IMO. I dont know the original weight w/ Foam. This one ways roughly 10 lbs W/wiring (Im using an old ass dial scale). Ill weigh it at fedex later and get the exact weight.

I took another pic of the grooves on top.
