I got an HTC thunderbolt for Verizon and I've been liking it. It does have some downsides though...

1: Battery life is every bit as horrible as you may have heard. It wouldn't last past 6pm for me without charging mid-day. I have an extended battery now, which actually makes the phone easier to hold and it'll last more than a day.

2: Verizon Data is horrible at the moment with the Thunderbolt. 4G LTE barely works and when it does it isn't THAT much faster. I'd trade it for a reliable 3G connection.

3. My earpiece speaker is starting to go out. It's 45 days old and already crackling. :( I've got protection on it so its not a big deal, but kinda a bummer.

Other than these issues its an amazing phone. Huge screen, great call quality and runs everything under the sun.

Casio G'Zone Brigade here. This thing is a PHONE, which is why I like it. Works well enough to talk, text, and take a note here and there. I have a computer for a reason, and Ipod that's 5 years old now for a reason, a video game system (or two) for a reason, etc... Call me a cranky old man, but I like my phone to be simply a rugged phone.

In that respect, the G'zone works great. Doesn't hurt that it meets whatever MIL spec for about a dozen different conditions. I could literally use this thing as a projectile weapon if needed, and it would be fine. I was sold after reading a review by a mechanic who dropped it into a pan full of oil from the diesel truck he was working on, rinsed it off with some water and simple green, and it still works great.

That said, it's a brick, and has a brick sized battery. I can go for roughly 6-8 days using my phone throughout the day between charges. I suspect a more active user would still get 3-4 days out of it, it's a proper battery. :)

I was thinking about my cell phone earlier because it seems that these days I am the only person who doesn't surf the internet with a touch screen. So I got curious and started this thread:

What kind of phone do you have, and how long have you had it?

For myself, I have a Pantech Breeze, and have had it for right at 3 years now.
I tell everyone how much it sucks when they ask, but now that I realize how it has survive this much abuse, I'm kinda impressed.

No there's one more person that doesn't surf the net on the phone, me!

Be 2 years on Sep. 20 with Sprints all data plan $60.00 a month X 24 months = $1440.00 + $40.00 samsung instinct s30 I tried to convince myself I love, and the screen stopped working. NOW Srint is nudging me to start anew by signing the same contract again and offering me "new phone pricing" which is also offered to ALL new customers. Their stores are crowded with zombies who "just want the new android grafted to there face so they can 'bate, hands free...AAARRRRGGGHHH I hate smatphones and dumb people!!!!

What's everyone's beef with smartphones..?

Remember when computers weren't for just the internet? It was for making pixelated printouts when you had to rip off the ends after the 40 minutes of line by line printing was finished. You had to type "windows" after "C:" appeared at start-up, and it would tell you it's safe to shut down. Remember the 13 radio-active colors that made up the screen..?

Now we can speak to anyone around the world instantly, download at several megabytes per second, Terrabyte hardrives, live streaming interactive midget porn, design entire cars before the materials they're going to be made out of are dug out the ground, advanced software that can seemlessly merge CGI and real live action, making our modern movies possible...

it's becoming the same with phones, sure it's a phone but now it can be so much more, so instead of complaining that a phone should be a phone, then a computer should be a fancy calculator, and you should go back to standing in the middle of town yelling like original forums were..

Actually, I understand both sides. In my experience, most people who aren't enthused about smartphones (I didn't used to be) just haven't had a good smartphone. I found most of my time owning a Blackberry frustrating. It almost was useful, but most of the time not. The iPhone was the 1st smartphone I had that was actually somewhat usable as something other than a phone, unfortunately it's not a great phone. My new HTC Android phone is actually useful as a phone and good at other things.

Don't get me wrong, I don't dislike the technology, I dislike the fact that this sort of technology KILLS productivity in the average person.

That said, your typical "drop it once hard enough and it's toast" style of smart phone wouldn't survive life with me. Now, make a smart phone that doesn't REQUIRE that I spend time with it, update it, etc, that is as rugged as my current phone... then I might be interested.

You're probably right. For someone like me (trying to run multiple businesses at the same time) it increases my productivity tenfold, but I can see where the average Joe might be distracted by it if it's considered a "toy" and not a tool.

I agree as well, now that I can surf SupraMania, watch Netflix, pay my xB, buy things on eBay and play SuperNintendo on my phone, I have noticed I spend way too much time on it..

No offense, but I always wondered what the hell it was that you did for a living considering how much time it seems you spend on here. :)

Sadly though, around here, you can tell when the kids get out of school. Internet speed begins to crawl, I call it "facebook time". I guess that has absolutely nothing to do with cell phone networks though, so... moot point.

And Razoe, I look at all the things you listed as more pleasure activities. Kinda like people who like to drink, but then go to work. I don't want to drink and have to work. I want to drink and enjoy myself. Same thing with gaming, movies/tv, etc... I'd much rather be at home and do that stuff, and work while I'm at work. I guess if I had a job where I was afforded a lot of free time like the one I had in 2007, I might be tempted to get a fancy phone like you guys too. As it stands I work too hard. :p
