from my under standing of what you just said i should just stick to the gc? i drive my car hard not really anything past 4k usually but i dont baby it by any means. plus i really like the gc. i went from 5w30 mobli1 tried 10w30 mobil1(engine sounded like it hated that on start ups) to the gc and just love the gc. i will have a hard time going to anything other than gc.

It's settled then, when I road race, I'll dump some Redline synthetic 0w40 in the 'ol' 2jz-ge na-t, sound good?

I'm currently running GC 0w30 :)

How about answering my questions before you call it "settled"? :3d_frown:
Red Line 5W-40 is significantly thicker than GC, both cold and at ops temp. Much more than the Amsoil AFL I suggested in response to your request. Plus, no one has even mentioned the 5W-40 version of Red Line. How did you come to this conclusion? It sounds like you already made up your mind and are looking for support...that is definitely not the case here.

FYI - I could care less about what oil you run, but I do not want anyone else to get the impression that this the "bottom line" when it comes to what oil to run. It sounds like to me your "solution" is a band-aid, when the real solution is to run an adequate cooler circuit.

but I said Redline 0w40, not 5w40.

As far as zinc content, I was under the impression it would help decrease engine wear...<ducks for tomato>

Ok...my bad. Red Line 0W-40 is the identical viscosity (15.1 cst) at 100 deg C as the 5W-40 and only a bit thinner at the 40 deg C "cold" spec. No difference at ops temp and a lot thicker than GC or Amsoil AFL.

ZDDP is not going to help a 2J...if you were running an old flat tappet cam V-8, different story. GC and Red Line are formulated with all the anti-wear additives you need. When you start throwing in additives like ZDDP in an oil you can upset it's formulation "balance" and produce the exact opposite result you are trying to achieve.

You still have not said why you want to do this? Why the secret?

Had to highlight that. Keep in mind you're also stressing your entire engine when the oil starts getting too hot as many parts are cooled by oil (pistons is a perfect example). It's not just water cooled...

ok.. so the gc is thicker than redline 0w30 but the redline 5w30 is thicker than gc? i get that the gc would be better on start ups but would the red line be better at opt temps?(i always warm up my car before driving)

i get cost at oil and im partial to the gc. but im a oil fanatic and always like my oil to be clean. so what would be a better oil? the gc or 5w30 redline? its not a race engine its a dd.

i know that the gc will flow faster to the bearing on cold start since its a 0w which i love but would i have any benefits running redline?

sorry for the confusion but oils are kinda a complicated subject for me, and from what i ahve read and seen the i haven't gone wrong with the gc so switching to something else is kinda hard.

Where did you get Red Line 5W-30 is thicker than GC? Did you read this?
http://www.redlineoil.com/pdf/4.pdf

Both the 0W-30 and 5W-30 are thinner oils than GC...the 5W-30 is actually thinner than the 0W-30 at ops temp.

I see no justification to run Red Line based on cost...it's more expensive and way over kill for most engines. It is an excellent oil however and if you can get it cheaper than GC, then you can use it if you want.

I see you like "clean oil". I hope you are not changing the GC any earlier than 8,000 miles in a DD (I would do a filter change at 4,000). If you are, you are dumping perfectly good oil.
