I was sorting through things in my garage when I came across 2 examples of carnage from failed turbo's. Unfortunately failures I personally experienced in my own car years ago.

The first image is from my original CT-26 that came with the car that I had been running hard for a few years up to this point. I was accelerating hard and under full boost at the time. Literally everything she would give me including what the HKS boost controller pushed her up too. Can't recall exactly what my PSI was, but I do remember I was walking all over a 5 liter fox body mustang and loving every second of it. On the third pull against him I was a good distance ahead when I heard a terrible and not at all normal noise. Looking out behind me I saw the largest cloud of "James bond" concealing smoke behind me I had ever seen in my entire life. The mustang was gone! He later told me (nice guy by the way) that he had literally thought my car had exploded. He kept expecting to see pieces of me and the car everywhere on the road.

The second pic is from my old Turbonetics, I can't remember exactly which one it was (can anyone give me any kind of guess based on the pics of this damaged wheel?) but it was making a rubbing noise as it spun down after engine shut down and as I suspected I had bearing failure. Religiously used a turbo timer and all, but crap happens.

As soon as I can find my melted piston from a lean condition on #6 I'll post that pic too. Burned a hole literally completely through the topside of the piston. That was good for a large smoke show too!

Here ya go, enjoy and take heed of the dangers of being addicted to boo$t.

^Good stuff!

I too have deployed the "Spy Hunter" smoke screen. It wasn't turbo related though.

It was from this... :biglaugh:

Sorry to hear man, I had an hks sports turbo somehow the oil feed line got clogged *the hole was the size of a 18 gauge wire* and bent all the fines in the turbo. Then had to sell the turbo to keep the supra, now i'm kickin myself in the ass everyday about it.

And I'm taking it was the turbonetics ct upgrade turbo?

No no, not an upgraded ct26 not at all. Look at the size of the compressor wheel. The CT26 was bone stock. The turbonetic was a T71 maybe, or something like that, it's compressor housing was nearly as large as my new GT4088r but the inlet seemed smaller perhaps.

I would love to show you guys, but someone stole that entire setup from me, which is why I'm 2jz and gt4088r now. Long story that puts me in a right bad mood.

I think it's particularly interesting how the aluminium itself was colliding with the housing at such a high speed the it was remelting itself.

The damage on the larger turbonetics wheel is much less noticable but you can see where it also was rubbing somewhat.
