carbon build up?

i just pulled my head off. on the head there is build up on the exust side of the vavles. it just on that side. am pretty sure the turbo seal is blown. b/c there was oil in the intercooler. other then that whateles could cause this? and also what is the best way to remove the old stock head gasket? thanks

Do you still have the stock PCV system? That basically spits oil right from the valve covers to your turbo's accordian pipe which is a cause for oil in your intercooler. Get a catch can, that will solve your problem. Gasket scraper? If you're planning on getting a MHG take it to the machine shop (alone with the block) to get cleaned up and smooth.
