ok so i didnt know weather to add to johns thread or start my own. i hope this is ok. i was driving my car last nite and i get to a stop light and it just dies. its done this before because i have my bov vented to the atm. it usually starts right back up. well this time when i try to start it it wont. and it sounds different. like theres no spark or fuel. so some people help me push it into the gas station parking lot and i start to check it over. i wonder if its out of fuel so i put some in and its the same thing. nothing. a budy came to pick me up and he happened to have a spark plug in his truck. so we pull the front wire and put the plug in it. crank it over and it doesnt spark. so we end up towing it to a shop and i come home and read up on this problem. i went back and tried jiggling the cps wires and nothing. the tach needle doesnt bounce so this leads me to believe that the cps is bad. but im not sure. i havent checed codes yet cuz i dont know how(but im planning on reading up on that here in a min, or if someone wants to tell me how). plus its raining right now so hopefully its not tomorrow and i can check them tomorrow. the only other thing i can think of is the ecu is fried or needs to be reset. i dont know how to reset it and i tried to search but couldnt find anything. somebody please help. and if anybody has a good cps and ecu im probably in the market for one or the other or both. Im in missori so if theres anyone close to help me that would be great.

Well, you have no pickup, but the CPS itself might still work. Or maybe the gap is wrong. But I would think about wiring first.

its probably the brittle old wires for the CPS having a problem. VERY common. Best thing to do to semi-fix the problem for the time being is just play with the wires on the CPS ad harness side and have a friend keep trying to crank the car...eventually youll get it to a point where the tach will bounce and it will start.

However obviously this leaves with the problem of it could do it again at any time with any movement...so you could always rewire it with fresh wires (however note cps wires are shielded so its not a simple wire swap) or you could try to get rid of the plug and hardwire it (not the best idea imo) and finally you can try to replace the cps harness and harness side plug completely with new stuff...again has to be done right due to the shielded wires.

im about to pull my hair out!! so i finnally went to chek my codes and im in my wifes car. i pull in to the shop where my cars and and her car dies. ahhh!! well i am friggin pissed now. but my friend and i seem to have found the problem. a dead coil pack. go fricken figure. anyways i pull the code from my car and its a code 12.

no "NE" of "G" signal to the ECU within 2 seconds after the engine has been cranked.

Trouble area:

Distributor (cam position sensor) circuit

Distributor (cam position sensor)

Starter signal circuit

ECU

so what do you guys think?

Try wiggling the CPS wires, as said above. If it works, you need to rewire it. There is at least one write up for it, possibly more. Search for it.

well i think i figured it out. i think my timing belt broke. god this sux. and my wifes car is screwed too. i got a new coil and that didnt help. so i took the timing belt cove off. timing belt isnt broken but when i rolled it over the timing belt didnt move. so now we're out both vehicles. i just dont know what to do.
