ok so i'm gonna get a new head gasket set and a set of arp head bolts. I wanna do it perfect this time, I had a few questions about doing a head job. What's the Right way to get the engine in time?, also what's the tightening pattern for the valve cover bolts and the torque? I plan on putting a small bead of sealant around the whole surface where the valve cover gasket mates with the head, and i plan on doing the same for the valve covers.

Don't need silicone on the whole gasket, just at the 2 front corners where the valve cover goes over the cam cap. It's in the TSRM. Rubber gaskets seal very well everywhere else, just not in the sharp corners. If you don't want it to leak, ditch the stock valve cover screws, and get some hex head bolts to replace them. Put a drop of red locktite on the end of the threads, and snug them in. Keeps them from loosening due to engine vibration.

Recommend you call Toyota and buy a manual to have on hand while you work on your car. You can even take notes in it for things like stock head torque specs vs. recommended specs.
