Okay.
So I installed a brand toyota OEM thermostat just on tuesday. The temp was still flucuating because I need to burp it and I think I've got some air bubbles in my system I think.
I know my radiator needs to be replaced, it's got 2 cold spots on the bottom part. But what the hell could be causing it to overheat?
It looked like the thermostat hadn't even opened up, it just kept climbing in temp, and hit like 250 I think, and I pulled over, shut it off, started it back up and the temp went down.
I didn't even hear my fans go on either....

Help me please!

I would burp it or find the problem before you drive anymore. Air pockets wont let the cooling system get to wanted pressure. Pressure is needed to raise the boiling point of liquids.

That's exactly what a stuck thermostat will do...did you feel the upper hose to see if it was hot when the gauge went up? Just want to check...you did install the thermostat with the spring inside the water neck and the bleed hole on top?

You need to get a new radiator...when I replaced mine the bottom third was clogged and was causing the car to overheat. Not fast like yours did, but the radiator could not get rid of the coolant heat fast enough...city driving made it worse.

First start with known problems (radiator). Then go with the easy possibilities, burp your system and if its still going on take your thermostat out and test it. Boil some water to the thermostat temp on your stovetop and see if the bitch opens.

Okay.
Heff came over last night, we burped it, wasn't varying in temperature as much, and didn't overheat.
The thermostat clearly opened, but my question is what could be causing it to vary in temp? It'll go up to 205, and drop down to like 200, 187 maybe, really quick, then slowly go down in temp, then slowly come back up. This was AFTER we burped it.
So today, I drained the radiator and flushed it out with some water, refilled it, and it starting doing a old faithful type shit. Just gurgling and shooting a gehyser of coolant up, then settling, then doing it again. So I put the cap back on, took it for a drive, and it wasn't varying in temperature so much anymore, but still doing it.
Thennnnn, I came back home, jacked it back up, but didn't have time to let it cool down enough before I left to go take a package down a couple miles, and took it back out and it overheated again, so I shut it off for a couple seconds, started it back up, and the thermostat opened, and it was fine on the way home.

WTF IS GOING ONNNNNNNN!??!

I got a thermostat from Toyota about a year ago that was sticking like this...it did it randomly and never did figure out why. I replaced the damn thing.

You're getting such a variation in temps due to your radiator...a clogged one will do that depending on load conditions and outside air temp. You need to replace it....consider a CSF if you have the coin, it's almost twice as thick and fits like stock.

umm... IIRC that water shooting out is a sign of a BHG, air coming back into the cooling system and trying to be pushed out. If you keep doing it and that keeps happening check any other spots where air can be entering the system. Then do a compression check...

Crank up the car when its cold. Rev the engine up to about 1500 rpm's and let off.....if it's a Leaking HG/BHG you will hear almost like a "waterfall" effect behind your dash. My HG is leaking some and it does that mostly on start-up ( even if i am N/A, i still know the BHG blues ) And i'm going to be done a N/A-T pretty soon, so im waiting on doing the HG untill i get all my parts. Good thing i dont drive mine all the time.

My car's actually been doing this today / yesterday again!

Anyways, were there alot of bubbles when you burped it? Sounds like it. Air shouldn't get back into the system once it's been burped, unless there's either a leak... or a BHG.

So when are ya gonna install that new HG?

Alright.
I bought a stant thermo from schucks yesterday, so that'll be going in for now...

I know my radiator has some cold spots on the bottom,
How long do you think I'll be okay to drive on it like this? I'm low on funds right now...
Is CSF the cheap one of the PWR and Koyo? right?
