Harbor Freight is Gods Gift to Man!

I picked up a new cherry picker and engine stand today, got a few other random tools as well, my favorite being the led head-mounted flashlight. WOOHOO! pics coming asap. So I got all this stuff assembled, which was more of a pain in the ass than I thought.

Whew, Long day.

Accomplished my primary goal today, which was to pull the 7m out of the car. I found several surprises along the way though.
#1 - the hoist I bought was missing some very important braces, so that was a nice interruption to run to harbor freight before they closed. got it replaced, but it did waste about an hour of my day trying to figure out why the 2 ton engine hoist wouldnt lift the 7m and trans out of my car.... it was bending the hoist!

Anyways, that bitching aside...

Found both my engine mounts practically disintegrated (time for solid mounts I guess), my engine bay is the worst Ive ever seen as far as nastiness is concerned. Its covered in crap... So I think this coming week Ill be pulling it outside and degreasing then reinspecting to see if I want to go ahead and paint the bay while I have everything out of there.

I also checked out the braking system and was pleasantly surprised when I figured out how easy its going to be to get rid of the ABS. (I cant stand 80's and early 90s toyota ABS systems.) So thats coming out while Im doing the swap, and a line lock is going in there as well for those fun times at the drag strip and random stoplights. :)

Got the engine sitting on a pallet and pulled the head while I was there. The head itself looks good, Ill have to double check it tomorrow when theres more light, but the block on the other hand.... check out the picture. one of these things is not like the other.

Im trying to find an alternative to the toyota rear sump setup on the 2j. I know moroso makes a nice aluminum oversize baffled oilpan for the 3sgte so Im going to see about getting them to make one for the 2j. anyone got a rear sump theyd like to let moroso borrow if I can manage to get that far with them? The 3s oil pan is about $250 or so, so I can see the moroso one being a better option than stock for those of us using aristo engines in a MKIII.

Anyways, the Indy500 is tomorrow, and its gonna be a long day in the paddock with lots of beer so Im done for tonight. enjoy the pics.

check out the pic of the block.... Ill be pulling the pan next week, but correct me if Im wrong.... those pistons should not be in those positions right?... :)

Also, check out that engine bay. this car seriously needs a cleaning. All that crap is from the PO driving the car with BHG and a hole in the downpipe. its all sticky burnt oil and coolant. yummy. I think Im gonna scrape it up and make a sandwich then feed it to his girlfriend.

Well, after spending the day pulling the engine and the night helping matt mount his new downpipe and figure out his lower intercooler pipe had blown off, I decided I was too tired to go home, so I slept in the warehouse...
Woke up and someone had broken into my scion and stolen all my tools, and everything else in my car... including my two saxophones. So, this project is on hold until I figure out if my homeowners is going to cover the loss. The horns come first... hopefully I find them. Both of these are one of a kinds, s its been a rough week for me so far, and the cops havent exactly been helpful as of yet.

I have serial numbers and surveillance footage of the theft so hopefully they will turn up in a pawn shop and Ill get them back... if I dont Im going to have to find a way to replace them which will cost ALOT more than this swap would and my horns are ALOT more important to me than my toy car, so hopefully insurance comes through. either way, its on hold till I hear back from them.

:(

Actually he sold his car and all his supra stuff.

I bought the car with the blown engine. He sold all his go fast goodies to others.

He got himself a first gen MR2...he use to be into those and got a good deal on a nice one.

Did you buy his car with the 2j in it or did it have that OTHER motor? You know, the one that sounds like heavenslim.

No 2j...just the one that blew up.

He never got a 2j.

I will be putting the engine that's in my car now into it and selling....Actually Matt and I will he is in on this as well.

I'm currently putting together a rebuilt 7m and hope to have it going in a couple of months.
