Specifications:

Decently Quick (maybe 15s in the 1/4 or better)
Manual Transmission
Prefer something with open top (Convertible/Sunroof/etc)
$12k or less
Used or new, prefer under 75k miles
Minimum of 25mpg highway.
RELIABLE.

List away anything you think might be in this range!

So far, we've considered:
Miata
Z3
240sx
Integra

It'd be a car for the wife, that I may have to drive occasionally. I just don't want something I'm constantly working on *cough*another Supra*cough*

And she's ass-kicking enough to want something that looks good, and is decently quick.

She's really wanting a Z3, but I'm hearing bad things about them over 100k miles, so I'm trying to set her onto something else...

MR-S or 7th gen Celica. 1ZZs and 2ZZs get about 30+mpg highway. if you look hard enough, you can find one for about your price range.

She's already ruled out the Celica, lol. MR-S I showed her, she wants to see one in person, but she doesn't like the headlights.

A friend (actually his wife) has a 240SX. He hates it. Doesn't get good milage, no power. But then he likes civics.

Another friend has a built 240SX, he loves it. But its really built and turbo'd.

Nah, she's dead against a Supra, as well. Goddammit, she's really wanting that Z3.

You realize it does a 16.0 @ 88mph, stock 1.9L?

I would reccomend a porsche 944 as well. thats my when the supra is broke, drive car. (1989 turbo)

Its a small volkswagen engine so its simple to have work done(aside from the head) and is a very nice car... just find one in good condition. which you can with 12k easily... Be prepared for cracked up interiors... Porsche quality in the 80s wasnt at its finest at the point.

924 same deal. Just a cheaper car.

A 968 I dont think his wife would go for. They are funny looking and she seems kinda picky lol

Yeah, like I said in the other thread, I like them but they definitely aren't for everyone. I was considering a 944 as a first car (before I bought my Supra). They are attractive, lightweight, and quick. The only thing against them would be that they are older. I would try to find one from the early-mid 90's.

My dad had bought my mom a Saab 900 turbo back when I was real little. Heh, that thing was pretty quick...and he actually ended up driving it more than her.

Heh when I bought my supra when I was 15... I drove it for like 2 days with my permit and the valve cover seals blew. So i spend a year(till I was 16, finished 2 days before I got my license =]) to fix it.

While i diddnt have a car I got to drive the 944 turbo... Insanely fast car.
