Car Dies When...

I don't know if this is too vague and i'm sorry if it is but when i rev it out in first to almost top end and let off the gas almost entirely the car dies. It's only happened a few times when I've lost traction due to wet roads. I avoid doing it now because it's obviously not the kind of thing that's good for the car.

I'm just curious if this is due to anything in particular. If this is a common problem i'm sorry for not searching better but i didn't find anything very similar.

Mods are in sig, i can't really confirm them because the car runs well and i'm not inclined to pull it apart if its not broken. Also the car has pretty bad compressor surge i don't know if it would be related.

What BOV do you run? Sounds like the classic issue related to not recirculating it.

Stock recirculated, actually.

I got an Ebay SSQV with the car but i don't have hard-piping yet, and i don't think i'll be using it anyways. I'm nervous about Ebay parts. The kid i bought it from says take it apart and lube it and its as good as HKS, but i find that hard to believe.

I want to go with the Synapse Synchronic when the time comes, on an unrelated note.

Bump.

Any ideas???

I'm sort-of getting the impression the stock BOV isn't working at all. I get surge any time i let off the throttle under boost.

i would check the bov, and check for intake leaks, honestly i would try to setup some kind of setup with the other bov and see if it goes away. our stock bosch bov's are good for stock use, are you running stock psi?

maybe the idle speed control valve?

What makes you think this? I'm new to supra's and altogether not that great at problem diagnosis.

Yeah I'm running stock psi. Is there any easy way i could put that ebay bov on there? Me and my friend haven't had the time to start putting the hardpiping together, and i don't have the spare cash yet for the Syanpse bov I want anyways.

take a piece of the hard piping and get a flange welded on and and stick it in with the stock piping. stock piping isn't that restrictive for stock power. the exhaust is a huge restriction.

Because your car won't idle properly/almost dies after abruptly letting off the gas. Then again it can be that you also have boost leaks or the stock bov isn't working properly anymore. Like they said take your bov out and blow out one end. If the air goes through then you need to replace it.

Well i'll start with testing the stock bov.
Then i'll move to putting the ebay bov on just for the sake of trying.

But it does idle fine, it doesn't fluctuate or anything its usually at just under or exactly at 1000rpms. Its just basically that after i let off throttle it loses power and sometimes dies. And i do believe it is worse when the heat is cranked, but that makes sense to me as it uses more power.

Thanks for taking the time to share opinions/experience i just want to keep this car running the way it should. The more "minor" problems i let build up the more they turn to "major."

Edit: I also forgot to mention because i just noticed it... When i put my foot at maybe 50%(?) throttle in higher gears, such as passing on interstate, it drops rpms a little right before it builds boost but doesn't lose power or anything. Is this normal for a turbo car? (This supra is my first)

To be honest with you i don't know how to check codes.
I thought there'd be a sticky but i didn't see one and search google/here didn't help much. (maybe i'm bad at searching?:1zhelp:)

I've got a bunch of free time tomorrow to start checking things out so i'll see what i can turn up. I figure my chilton's should tell me how to check codes... right?

Also i've got to re-torque the head bolts so i'll be spending plenty of time under the hood tomorrow.
