I wonder if this could be connected to the high idle problems i currently have.

I can currently drive my car around till its warmed up and put it into neutral and it will idle at >1100 rpm

It drops to approx >800 when i engage D or R

Sometimes when i come to a stop the engine revs will drop to virtually stalling point and come back. I mean the rev counter is almost at the bottom and the car will judder then pop back up to >800 rpm

I had an issue with the high idle speed which i discovered to be a split pas idle up pipe beneath the alternator. I fixed this and it was fine for say a week. Ive had a quick look and cant see any badly split pipes. Though i do plan to change them just incase.

I was also advised on here to clean the iscv and the cold start injector. ive done both these now

Anyone got any further ideas on what it could be?

Im gonna go check for engine fault codes in a bit as its raining outside just now

also just noticed this, when i go from N to D the revs drop from 1200 ish down to about 500 before settling at 900 ish (obviously i know there gonna drop when i select anything other than P or N)

it never did this before. It would idle at about 750 rpm and drop to say 650 once i engaged drive

As far as i can tell with out removing the vac pipes they all feel fine with no obvious splits etc.

Is it possible the metal pipe that goes across the front of the engine has gone porous?

nobody  lol

Don't think the pipe can get porous. Have you checked the connections on the TPS and calibrated it? If you think it's a vac leak, you should get a gauge to check it.

the multi plug is a little cracked but seems to fit securely enough. not calibrated it as of yet though. i figured it was to do with the vac system as i did originally find a split pipe. i repaired it. it cured it for a week but then it came back

whats the procedure for checking the vac system? what tools would i need?

hmmmm. I just went for a drive to warm her up a bit. When i back of the throttle and the revs drop off (its an auto) it seems to drop too far and then goes back to whatever it normally sits at. another thing it didnt do before these dodgy faults.

ive tried squeezing the vac hoses but none of them drop the revs down as they did before when i found the split pipe.

incidentally i need to renew the plugs(there is a slight miss i can feel with the engine running so fast at idle) so ill check out the tps whilst its all dismantled.

also again i had the whiteish greyish misting in the oil filler cap. now i use the car regularly and im fairly sure this is a recent thing aswell. it always goes away after a short while though.

well this random mystery may be partly solved. the plugs were soaked in oil due to the cam cover gaskets leaking. (oil in plug wells) so thats one thing sorted for now. Im gonna order new gaskets tomorrow and fit them when there delivered so thatll probably be next weekend now

yeah. i noticed mine, when i go from park to drive, it will go to about 500rpm and kinda shake like its gonna stall, but comes backup to about 650. one thing you could check it the tps, if its set right, i know if you don;t know what you are doing, it can be horrible. another thing you can check is the coolant where the sparkplugs are. i know i had that just recently and mine where soaked and that was making mine run crappy. you can try plugs, tune up, timing, stuff like that. and one thing you can do for the vacume lines is you can get carb cleaner and spray them and when your idle increases, you found your leak. hope this helps.

I had the same problem.I had a bad connection
with my mass air flow plug.
