OK gentlemen, I took the panel off a while ago and got nowhere. I have noticed though, that the alarm goes off even before I open the door. I'll unlock it, and right as I'm about to grab the latch it goes off.

When I had the panel off, I couldn't find any blue or orange wires or anything as someone else mentioned. What exactly should I look for, and what exactly should I do? I've had about enough of this douche baggery.

Try unlocking the car from the passenger side only from now on. Had this same issue with my 88. Unlocked it from the passenger side, never had the problem again. ;)

It must bring the cancel input to ground *before* the switch in the solenoid/latch brings the trigger input to ground.

Where do you find these books? Did you come across them just randomly in the EE business, or did you hunt them down? A great deal of information you put out is often not in any Toyota publication. And I have a nice library. And I don't mean the repair manual.

Was there something about post #10 you didn't understand? Was it all Greek to you?

OK, so what exactly should I do? The cancel switch has to be ground, that doesn't really help me much. Which is the cancel switch? I took a multimeter to the plastic piece where a lot of wires attach to and I'm not getting any current. Yet somehow all the electronics in the door work.

edit-Also, read my signature. I'm trying.

Books? Lol. No books involved, at least not in this case. Forgive a lack of modesty but that it works in such a way is, just from looking at the EWD, intuitively obvious to someone with my technical background. Remember, I didn't just fall off the back of the turnip truck yesterday. Besides, it's an old car...not the Space Shuttle.

OP: Read post 13 again...

The cause of this almost always the cancel switch on the lock cylinder. It must bring the cancel input to ground *before* the switch in the solenoid/latch brings the trigger input to ground. And fwiw the actual opening of the door has nothing to do with triggering the alarm eg; the jamb switches are not connected to the system. It's one of the things that makes the factory alarm a halfway decent design.

Do you have any idea what the time delay between the two needs to be?

I have an aftermarket alarm - it sometimes, but not always, triggers the factory alarm when I unlock the doors. My previous aftermarket alarm had a second output that was wired to the "alarm disarm" line, and was configured to pulse a moment before the "unlock" pulse. This alarm doesn't have that. But it would be easy enough to kludge up a little delay circuit.
