the headlight wand control is separatable and can be replaced either with dealer or a parts car, its just hard to install the control separate because of teh ball bearing thing for the high beam switch so it would be easier to replace the whole combination switch

i replaced the whole switch assembly...

it wasn't that hard... remove the upper and lower steering column pieces... remove the steering wheel.... remove the lower dash cover thing (with the little driver side floor heater thing.... then unscrew the switch.... unplug the harness under the dash and pull it out.... then reinstall...

if i forgot anything then im sure someone will chime in..... and just to be safe disconnect ur battery... just to be safe

yes, the battery, especially if you have a 90+ supra with the airbag, ive seen a few ppl unplug the airbag and somehow deployed on their face

oh a story on this... my auto tech teacher said he went to a junkyard and the guy behind the desk was all beat up looking....

he asked what happend...... He replied that an airbag blew up in his chest as he was working on a steering column and it blew him out of the rear window.... i was like :aigo:

^ I may still have the control switch off my 88, works just fine u just gotta solder the wires together and install the bearing/spring that is used when you turn the high beams on, it installs with 2 screws and a clip and itts a PITA to get back on, other than that it works fine, unless ur 89+ it looks different.

Hey Mod Monster,

You say the headlight switch is a P.T.I.A., How does the spiral cable come off? The assembly that you see when you first take the steering wheel off, the one with the yellow warning tag, the one that you have to line up the "red' arrows., Are there any suprize's that I need to know about? Any springs, clips, e.t.c.t that I need to be care of??

Thanks
