Can't blame a guy for trying, but COME ON!!!

You know...Probably 30 times now, when I see a MKII for Sale, 95% of the time, the owner claims he knows what he's talking about, but sounds like an idiot.

A typical conversation:
Me: "Have you done anything to it?"
Seller: "Nope, it's just raw V6 Turbo power"
Me: "Oh really? Who put this V6 Turbo motor in?"
Seller: "No see it came stock. It's one badass V6"
Me: "How often do you do maintenace on it?"
Seller: "Oh, I've changed all the hoses and stuff for it"
Me: "Can you show me the turbo?"
Seller: "Ahh, I haven't really tried to mess with it."

This is usually when I walk away...I'd typically try my hardest to make him feel like the biggest dumbass without being rude, but damn, it's so hard. :nono:


The biggest thing that gets me is when the owner talks about how they've practically had the motor apart and said they rebuilt it and stuff but yet they don't realize it's a 5M-GE. GEE. EEEE. :nono:

I work at parts at a local toyota dealer here in jax......We had a guy come in with an mk2 supra. So naturally i went out there and talked to him about it, he did some custom interior work that looked pretty nice, so i was just looking it over. Then I told him i have an mk3. He said that i am pretty much wasted my money trying to get power out of the 7M and that i should just save up for an mk4 because they make 600 hp from the factory........ RRRRRIGHT and PIGS CAN FLY!!!!!!!!! :biglaugh:

^^^ haha thats hilarious....you spend twice as much getting a stock mk4 than modding an mk3 to make more power.

well yeah, i think i was making so much power that my turbo melted off of the exhaust manifold, sealing the manifold permanently to the exhaust piping. sad thing is, it got so hot under there it vaporized the T in the 7mgte and even melted the word turbo right off of my rear trim!

I like to show under my hood, and be like yeah, it's stock. People look and say
wow it looks nice.

It has a 7M-GTE with a .57 trim on it under the hood.

I had one guy look at me and go it's not stock. I said what makes you say that.
I shit thee not, he pointed at the BOV, and said those aren't stock. he had a
friend who has those on his vtec civic. I ask is the civic turbo? He's said no.
Apparently the civic kid just had it welded on his intake pipe.

And I had a MKIII Turbo owner once talk to be about my car, and he was a
newbie, I pointed him here and suprforums, but he never came. His car was
parked next to mine and we got to talking, and I didn't mention my car yet.
I just popped the hood, as he popped his, and then he started all talking
about the 7M-GTE and how cool a motor it was, and stuff. I smiled and said
I know. he looked under my hood, and stopped for a second...

That didn't come in that car right? You swapped the motor in there?
No, and Yes I did.

his response...I bet that car weighs nothing, I bet its fast, can I have a ride?

...Sure .
