I found this quad that's been wrecked and for those following the gokart thread i'm going to build one using a lawn tractor engine but this type of engine has also been a consideration.

basically the kid bailed and sent the quad tumbling to its demise, and this is how it sits however many (uncovered) years later.

it would be great if someone knew what type it was. i'm trying to figure out the displacement and horsepower of the engine.

Do you think the engine has a good chance of still being good? the frame is bent and the rear axle as well, so all i'm interested in is the engine, electonics, and of course the tranny. i dont know older quads well and i cant tell if this is a higher-powered fast model or a slower sport model. being smashed doesnt help me either. and i dont know if i should worry about the engine being good. i dont know enough to know if it would be in starting condition anymore....

let me know what you guys think about using it for a gokart engine, if anyone knows what it is. i didnt see any markings that i can use to identify it.

well if the cylinder walls arnt all fucked up and the gearbox isnt rusted, the engine and tranny could be worth something.

I'd persoanly try to make it work, you have nothing to lose.

nothing to loose except my time and money scrapping the shell.

but you have a point.

i need to find out a bit more though because i dont need extra junk. once i find out more about it's specs... otherwise i'm perfectly content with the lawn tractor thing.

but i was thinking a multi-speed tranny and engine from something like this could really work well and its been done. i just dont know enough about quads to know what this engine has going for it.

well it's not a big quad so its prob like a 125 or so. it wont be a rocketship, but might work for now. maybe pick up a 250cc or 500cc street bike motor?

depending on its size and it appears to be a 4 stroke.....im guessing less than 10hp. My 1984 200x honda 3 wheeler has somewhere round 15hp. Even if it does have less power, remember it has a sequential gearbox(most likely). If its good, id build a normal go-kart style frame and use that motor/tranny.:naughty:
