Consume oil, yes, and if you drive your car hard that extra quart helps keep the oil pickup covered. Uncovered oil picku = rodknock.

The crank isn't even close to hitting the oil in the pan at that level, I've heard you could easily run 2 quarts over and still not have any issues.

Personally, I run the third gasket in the center instead of the "upgrade" to just the sealing rings for the oil galley plugs. Either way, water/oil in the plug valley WILL cause issues.

I know that. I just don't have 40 bucks or whatever it is for the 3rd valve cover gasket. The fiber gaskets from Napa cost me less than 5 bucks and are doing their job damn well

you filled up the "3rd" valve cover with degreaser and it loosened all the caked up oil in there. Thats what is boiling. I am 100% positive the valley inbetween your valve covers is completely filled up with water. You need to blow it out with an air gun (or a leave blower). Also.. dry off your distributor and your spark plug wires. That should do it.
