Hello guys.

A friend of mine have swapped his 3.7 with 4.1 torsen. He likes it, but 4.1 is too short. So can torsen itself be installed into 3.7 case? Or vice versa (3.7 gear set into torsen case).

Thank you.

Unless you have access to a good selection of both pinion, and side shims, don't attempt it.
No 2 housings, or diffs are machined exactly the same, and if you swap gear sets out, or move a diff from one housing to another, you will need to re-shim them or the gear mesh will not be correct.

By the way, unless your making 500 HP, and do 5000 rpm launches at a drag strip, with big sticky drag slicks, the torsens hold up fine.

The Torsen is not a drag diff, and will not take sever punishment.
(but then again, neither are the OEM clutch style LSDs, I have seen them break also)

Then why did you change diffs? ;)

I'm going to play around with a IS300/Altezza Torsen in the future.

I live 10 mins away from the strip. So i can pull the front bumper off and have a bud tow me home if need be. lol.

I come from a land down under
There was a V8 in my future ;)

The only failure I had on G series Diffs was frying the pinion bearings in 2 from top end runs, I'd still use one with a 7M if I pressure lubed the front bearing without a second thought.

At least with the 9" I have all bases covered.

There you go again, adding to my 'things to do' list.........

Mine works Great ! :naughty:
I took my OEM, shimmed to Hell LSD, and put it in another housing for the drag strip.
Love the helical on the street, & twisty roads.
