Is there a way to just do away with the damn knock sensors? :icon_evil I ordered a rewire kit from shaeff, and will be installing. But is it possible to bypass or get rid of the knock sensors for good?

are you stand alone? the ecu will adjust timing according to the signal from the ks. so yes you can pull them out, but your car will likely to run poorly unless you are stand-alone. even then why would you want to remove a precaution to detonation?

ninja edit: im no expert here, so dont remove your ks for any reason

Because they rob power when faulty or not grounded properly. It would be one less thing to worry about. I didnt think there was a way to bypass them and not throw a code 52, but just curious.

They are there so the car can run the most aggressive timing it can to give you optimum power across the rev range.

I thought that's what you were getting at...so, following that logic:

Bypass the pesky coolant temp sensor...no more code 22.
And, how about the O2 sensor too...no more code 21
Two more less things to "worry about".

See where I'm going with this?
Instead of looking for ways to bypass sensors the ECU uses to control this engine, how about just fixing the cause? ;)

Easy, wire them properly and replace them if they're faulty.

Doing it the right way often requires some time and money.

This is the story of a MkIII... it's old, shit's going to break. Fix it right or don't complain that nothing ever works. It's the nature of the beast, if you play with fire you'll get burned.

If you yank your knock sensors out, imagine the flames you'll get in 6 weeks when you post a thread that you have a damaged piston.

Yeah i doubt i would have done it anyways, since i already bought the kit from shaeff. It was just a kind of what if question

The real question is what if there was a way to bypass the knock sensors? Would you do it vs paying for the kit?

If the answer to that question is "yes", you are in for a tough time keeping this engine running well.
It indicates a willingness to take short cuts...the 7M will bite you hard if you do ;)

Redacted per Title 18 USC Section 798
The rewire one member shaeff offers. Used to correct KS wiring shorts or opens in the stock harness. I've never seen the kit (my 21 year old harness still works fine) but it's apparently done the job for many members.
