Can the turbo be damage because the low pressure at idle?

The last week my turbo die’s.

So I need to replace it. The mechanic that inspect the turbo, told me that was damage because poor oil supply or oil quality.

Also suggest one with water cooled.

The engine was rebuilt 3 months ago, and use normal oil during the break in, now it has 1,500 Milles so I’ll change to syntactic oil.

Also said the oil -3An diameter is small.

So I worry about the oil pressure at idle

I need to buy a new one or see if Horse power freak can sell me a rebuild kit, so I don’t want to damage again, no much $$$$$$

The turbo is Precision turbo t4, compressor wheel 76mm .70a/r, exhaust hosing .68.

What do you think?

How old is the turbo? I have used -3 lines with no issue, but if you are getting good oil pressure why do you think it starved of oil. Did you ever run low? Try a -4 line if you fel it isn't getting enough oil.

Because at Idle the oil pressure is less than 7 psi

Damn...that's low. howvabout doing a relocation kit to raise that or replacing the stock filter mount with a new one. Personally I couldn't live with an oil presure that low at idle. It's within the specs written in the repair manual, but for me thats non existant. I get 25 psi of presure at warm idle.

you get a bigger feed and at wot it may be too much pressure. Id just relocate filter to get more pressure. When I did that mod my pressure moved up to 20psi from 10 at warm idle.

I think part of the equation is with a cooler running full time may help increase pressure because it keeps oil running through a cooler controlled by a thermostat. The cooler oil has different viscosity than hotter oil.

This is NORMAL, in fact most people are even lower, around the 4-5PSI mark. Its a high volume, low pressure system IIRC

Believe it or not mine didnt get that low untill after 180k miles. Then when I had the motor rebuilt it was between 5-7 psi. I think that old filter mount adapter spring failure plays a part in this equatin also.

I know that in the manual 5 psi it's ok! when the engine is warm at idle, but for the engine, I worry about the turbo :aigo:

by the way, I allready install an oil filter relocation kit, with a permacool oil cooler with electric fan that activate at 180 F oil temp.

from what i have heard to high of oil pressure can be bad for a turbo

also i dont think your turbo was damaged because of low oil pressure at IDLE. It would be damaged from low oil pressure at high revs though. resulting in lack of oil at high rpms

What do you think if I install this kit?

Accusump Turbo After-Oiler Kit

Solve the main cause of turbo wear and failure by supplying a pressurized discharge of oil to the hot turbo bearings during spool down. The Turbo After-Oiler housing is constructed out of aluminum hydraulic cylinder tubing, (that houses a billet aluminum piston), with billet aluminum screw on end caps.
