I haven't done any full passes on my new 800 RWHP set-up.
With my old set-up (620RWHP), I did a best of 11.00@130MP. I will hit the track eventually. Still waiting on a crank pulley from ATI to show :(

Oh, and street tires at the track are as usless as pockets in underwear...

No kidding. Anyone trying to run 12's on street tires is just asking for frustration. It can happen, but its not easy or ever will be consistant, especially on poorly prepped tracks. Just not worth spending $20 and hours at a busy track trying to avoid wheelspin all night.

how about 255 BFG DR's on stock wheels, about 150 a piece and hook pretty good. shouldnt have a problem running 12's on them. DR's are street tires IMO.

I ran my 12.0 on 255 BFG DR's. They hook great on a prepped track. However, I wouldn't consider a tire that wears out in 5k miles- a street tire.

kumho 712's are such crap... seriously...for what they are, they're overpriced. they chunk to an indecent degree and have shitty soft ass sidewalls...

I dont even drift on 712's...

I really shouldnt be in a drag thread, but I got to reading, and the ecsta supra caught my eye, and I had to voice my opinion. hahah

EDIT: Try Hankook RS2's hella grippy and responsive.

I have a thought.

With any amount of power you will need slicks unless you don't mind pedaling the car the entire time and waste your money as someone has already stated. Just do it once and be done with it. Street tires are a joke at the track.

So you're chunking the fronts?

no, I had st 115's in the front and kumho 712s in the rear when I bought the car. using the same methods that worked w/ other tire setups, I found that the rear end was far more difficult for me to control that it should have been. when I swapped the st115's to the rear and put rt615's in the front, the problem was solved. I kept the old 712's so I would have a couple spares laying around, but was amazed at how much they had torn and chunked. the 712 is a street tire that doesnt perform up to par with a lot of those that match its price range in the market, IMO.

Hmmm soft rubber is always going to chunk if you slide it.
(look at a set of wets run on a drying track)

I'm not being a smartarse or a prick it's just the wrong choice of rubber for the job at hand.

I looked at running R's on mine but the milage was a huge issue, if I take it to the track I'll mount up some slicks as Duane has suggested and for track days I can get a hold of used Slicks to mount on a spare set of rims.

that could be the case, but they still performed at a substandard level to me no matter what I put them through..

anyways.

I'd have to say my favorite tire combo right now would be rt615's in the front and dirrezzas in the rear. mainly because the dirrezzas offer superb control, and give off a butt-load of smoke, which always makes drifting more enjoyable.

but for drag/launching I'd reccommend some RS2's if you're looking for a street tire. but the thing is, in my area, we have a speed shop that thorws out tires w/ tons of tread left on them, so we can usually get a good pair of RA-1's or similar R compound tires for free, so hooking up usually isn't an issue. a lot of guys that I know base what size wheels they buy off of what is most common out back of the shop(s). hahah

hey guys i just wanted some input. I run 13.698 @ 101.5 w/ 2.00 60 with a internally stock 7mgte, ct-26 50 trim, full exhaust, intake, and large fmic with 2.25 inch piping @ 10psi on 245/50/16 street tires on mk4 n/a wheels. i am in the process of going ffim with a 1jz intercooler and 2.5 inch piping and turning up the boost to 15psi and tuning with maft basic. i really want to run 12's on street tires do you think it's possible with my upgrades? if needed i can go to a 255/50/16. what do you guys think? (please don't clutter up my thread with "you better go mhg or you won't be running anything" when it blows i'll go mhg)

I ran 13.3@108mph with the mods in my sig, my second time to the track with a 2.0 sixty. Also my local track does shit for prep so with more practice and better track prep I think I could have gotten into the 12's. But my last pass I blew a coolant hose and didnt notice until the drive home when the car overheated, then I got a bhg a couple of weeks later from overheating.
