Titan MHGs are made by Cometic...I'm pretty sure the rivet problem has been fixed, but you always should lay a MHG on the block deck and check for any rivets that touch it. Those have to be removed.

Just installed a brand new Comectic MHG and had to remove 2 rivets.

I took apart one of my 7mgte´s to rebuild with better pistons etc.

I´ve never had any problems with HG but still left my engine at a shop and they had to mill 0,3mm of the head ;)
It was milled 2years ago!

There must be different revisions of the cometic gasket. I did mine last year and didn't have to remove any rivets. And yes, I did know about the rivet clearance issue before hand and check, not just a, "well it's still working for now!" :icon_razz.

I wouldnt. Thats usually about the point where you replace it.

Something gave or the block wasnt machined right or even at all.

Dead thread revival..Question about coating and reusing TMS (cometic) hg. I know you have to remove the rivets and coat each piece but what no one mentioned is whether you need to re-rivet the pieces back together when finished. So, do I need to rivet it back together after cleaning and coating the separate pieces? Thanks in advance.

Thanks for the help. I was also wondering, what surface prep is needed? Do I need to resurface the block and head to re use it? If not, what is the best way to clean the surface, like the left over coating from the head gasket, without messing up the finish(on the block and head)?
