You seemed to be shifting fine when i rode with you. So this problem is off and on? Also this oil really helped my tranny :)

That's what I have in my R154. It seems to be pretty good stuff.

He isn't trying to downshift in too high of an RPM is he?

Good question. When i rode with him he shifted fine but i didnt see him downshift at all so guess he will have to comment on that.

R154's are naturally smooth trannies.

From what I hear, the W-58 is much much smoother. I'd have to say that mine doesn't grind and it goes into gear pretty easy. But, I wouldn't say it is naturally smooth. When I drive mine, it feels like a real beefy tranny (which I like).

i have a really bad R-154. shifting it grinds and its very hard to put into gear. hanged gear oil using Royal Purple 75-90 and DAMN! shifting twice as goo now. still grinds of course cuz of synchros but no more stuck gears.

First off, I hope you're joking about R154's being smooth trannies. They are some of the notchiest bitches I've ever used, but I like the feel

I went from normal gear oil, to RP Max Gear and it went into reverse easier, but it ground worse (it's TOO SLICK). I went to RP Syncromesh and it was horrible (far too thin for our trannies). I went to the Red Line MT90 and I RARELY get a grind, even when downshifting aggressivley into first.

RP is TOO SLICK for the syncros and won't function properly causing it to grind more and cause other issues. Use Red Line...

Another thing to add is reverse is notorious for being tough, even the owner's manual has a blurb on it. Best thing to do is push the clutch in, wait 5 sconds then try reverse. It shouldn't grind, clunk, or fight you. If it doesn't go right in, put it in neatral, release the clutch, then try again.

Poodles is correct...you do not want to use RP in the R154. Read this ;)

Interesting topic about this thread, mine has a meaty shift / hard to sometimes get in if it's not warmed up, but since I wait 2-3minutes for idle it's been perfect ever since, guess cold gearboxes dont like to be messed with.

I do heel'and'toe almost everytime it's just habitual.... and I feel lt's a much more progressive and sure way for my braking.. even if you're not braking 'fast'.

my car is the exact same way. I wait until it warms up because its really difficult to shift gears when the car is still cold

Put in some MT90... Make sure to change the gear oil when it's warm... so drive it around a bit then go right home and drain out w/e you have in there... Put in MT90... Done.
