Can a moderator limit your freedom of speech here?

Can he delete all you have to say? If so, where is our freedom of expression that we always talked about in the past?

Roy

if you were having a problem, id take it up through pms. most arguments dont really involve the whole community and could be easier handled through private discussion, without outside agitation. your freedom of expression is still there, but without the flare ups usually associated with lack of moderation.

that said, i don't like it when mods delete my posts and id deal with it easier if i got a pm or something explaining why it happened, if i didnt clearly break the rules.

A web forum isn't a democracy. You have no freedom of speech here.

Wrong....I am sure our moderators have to be intelligent guys and should know that although this is a web forum, people expect some form of freedom of speech. Otherwise why would people come here when you cannot say what you want to say as long as it is not too offending.

I just wrote a reply in my thread and it got deleted. I didnt offend anyone or offend any GOD. Just wrote how I felt.

Cheers,
Roy

I think they have the power to erase anything and everything that you say. I also think that our moderators deserve this right. They have on more than one occasion, stopped useless name calling and slandering before it got out of hand. I trust them with any of my posts, and wouldn't change the way things are done here.
I think you are a great guy TTE, so I can't see you having any problems with the moderators, but I don't know everything that goes on here.
We still have our freedom of expression. I really could do without alot of the senseless cussing that some of our members use, but that's the way they choose to express themselves. I've learned to live with it. Doesn't mean that I approve of it, but I'm not going to tell someone what they can and can't say. If I were a moderator, I might change a few F words every now and then.
I hope you get everything solved if you have a problem here, cause I like you and your merchandise that you sell here. Hopefully you've gotten caught up on your work, and can start enjoying a little rest and relaxation.............lol

I always love when this arguement comes up. Google is your friend.

http://www.theadminzone.com/forums/articles.php?do=viewarticle&aid=845

Please pay close attention to the part about the Constitution:
The U.S. Constitution:
Amendment I
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the government for a redress of grievances.

Freedom of speech from the first amendment can be summed up this way:
Congress shall make no law abridging the freedom of speech

The author starts by saying visiting his forum is much like visiting his house.

If the rule in my house is that you cannot use the word "Coffee" and you say "Coffee" for any reason I will give you a warning. If you choose to continue to use the word "Coffee" in my house after your warning then you get escorted off my property.

Visiting this site you are entering someone's house. You agree'd to the Terms of Service when you registered. If you get your stuff deleted because you can't follow the Terms of Service (house rules) then that is not our problem. As MKIIINA said above, the Terms of Service (rules) here are nowhere near as bad as some other places.

Yes, Depending on what was said. Our job is to look out for the community here and I think Reign is doing his job well. If your post was inappropriate they get "hidden until further review" I think*.

I do not hold grudges against any moderator. And I did not call anyone names or nothing of that sort. Just writing how I felt.

Thanks SupraHero...My products will only get better as soon as I deal with the last 5 customers.

Hey, I have no complaints. Just his comment that there should be "some form" of free speech shows he doesn't understand. There can only be total freedom of speech. If it took "some form" that would mean somebody would still be making decisions about what was proper and that wouldn't be, by definition, freedom of speech now would it? Maybe that viewpoint was too logical for him ;)

When I said some form of free speech I was not comparing it to a total freedom of speech or none at all. I did not mean it as a quantity. I just said it like that...I have better things to spend my time on than go indepth and logical about Freedom of Speech. I would rather spend my logic on Mathematics and Engineering where it matters more.

I have not read the "Terms and Conditions" because I did not feel I needed to. I came here because this is a community where we love the Supra and make friends and learn alot about the car and the "Terms and Condtions" were the last thing on my mind.

Cheers,
Roy

Your freedom of speech on Supramania.com goes as far as the staff feels it should go. You can say whatever you want as long as we find it appropriate. Basically what it boils down to is no, you do not have free speech. You are confined to a set of rules that are broad and to be interpreted by staff members. We are open with what is allowed and ultimately the community is to be served. We try to keep the site as community friendly as possible and make decisions based on what we feel is most advantageous to the community as a whole.

One man's freedom of speech at all costs is not advantageous to anyone except that person in our view, and as such, it does not exist here on Supramania. Fortunately for the members here, we find most things people say to be of at least some value to the community, and as such, very rarely do posts get deleted.

Hope that answers your question to some extent. PS: Thread moved.

I don't have a problem with posts that are deleted. I have a problem with posts that are deleted without any reason given.

Disappearing posts = gay

Agreed. You should never have a post deleted on Supramania without a reason either sent to you via a PM, or posted in the thread in which your post was deleted from. Your posts should also not be edited without a reason given as well, either in the post itself, in a post afterwards, or via PM.

You should never have a time when something is done without notification. You will be given a reason if you are banned, or if anything is done with your posts. Not knowing why something happened sucks.
