Can a BOV stop working properly out of the blue?

My BOV was working fine the day before yesterday. After doing a little body work up front, I start her up, she's idling the same, take off, hit a little boost, and my BOV flutters at any psi. I've searched and it kinda sounds like compressor surge, but at the same time some folks are saying it's "normal"...

My question is do BOV's fail little by little, or do they go out without warning such as mine..?

oh, and it's an HKS like in my avatar.

was it cold? mine sticks when its cold, but its a greddy. revv it up a lil with your head next to the air filter you will hear if its compressor surge or the bov.

Tried to take it apart yesterday; wasn't going to happen, damn tiny bolts are hard to get at. I took the front casing off, though and the piston moved in and out, the vacuum line checked out fine, which made it weird.
It was venting fine right before I parked it, replaced the header panel, put it back on, drove off and heard the weird fluttering noise. The annoying part is, the BOV's location makes it a bitch to get to (behind my passenger side foglight), luckily I can crawl under and take off the IC pipe without lifting the car, despite my lip. I'm thinking of buying a new one, but I'm not sure if I need to.

well, this one flutters all day long, whether hot or cold..

I've just been shifting as fast as possible to avoid compressor surge, and I've been downshifting to a stop..

aside from hauling ass and impressing the ladies, are there any side effects to this while I source a new BOV?

ive had a few bov's seize up on me, infact my mate built a monstor rb30 had had massive surge, took his bov apart and lubed the internals (greddy i think?) and it was back to being happy!

my stock bov now only opens under 2-3 psi now
