so i was wondering.. somthing iv never really looked into for my car is a nice pair of cams... i was reading that they can add quite a bit of power... so i was wondering.. how hard are they to install?? i read they can add up to like 50extra hp to the wheels.. what would be the expected gains from them? any info for this would be greatly appreciated. thanks! :biglaugh:

Search around, there was a thread on cams in a 7m not too long ago....mentioned that if you are making a lot of power already, then they can help, but without other mods, they are not the best bang for the buck.

like everyone else said.. its rather pointless untill you get into the higher HP marks and higher supporting mods. if you want a minimal difference, put non turbo cams in, as far as i can recall it has a higher lift and less duration.

Cams are not pointless.

You just need to match them to what YOU want from the car, power-wise (and where you want said power to be)

It's all a system.

I agree that cams help and that they are part of a system, but it's not like we have a domestic car where you could just log into Summit or Jegs and buy 4 distinct cams for the same price as a pair of our cams. Sure the LSA is not adjustable but for the price of cam gears you could just buy another cam. But anyways, its had to be able to determine what cam is good for your setup without purchasing it first.

Domestic engines are so customizable. So many different cams, valves, pistons, heads, cranks, rods, and everything else for the same block. Its a bummer that no Japanese engine was ever as mass produced as some of the Domestic engines were. It's possible that in Japan they had more aftermarket possibilities but not here,

Installation difficulty would depend upon your abilities. You really should read the link I posted, it'll give you a good idea of what's involved to do it correctly.
