hey all,

just spent six hours cutting through the seized camber bolt on the right rear lateral link. it had rusted to the bushing i guess and would not move, even after soaking in pb blaster all night (had a pump constantly cycling a gallon up to it and trickling back down). i think the total was six recip saw blades and two 3" cutoff discs.

unfortunately, the left rear link is seized too andi was hoping for some advice on how to remove it. i'm thinking i'll have to go at it with the saw once again, but didn't know if there were any faster options.

the car's been down for three weeks now :)

Time to get an oxyacetaline torch. they have portakits for like 250-350, thats what i have. costs like 35 to fill both tanks. That and the mig welder are two of the most useful things i never thought i needed until i got it and used it all the time.

i've got a plasma cutter (and love my mig :)), i can also borrow an oxy/acetylene setup from a coworker. however, i can't see where i'll have clearance to cut this without touching the subframe or the lateral link itself unless i cut the head of the bolt off (still worried about weakening the subframe). then there's the gas tank too.

just use a sawzall and some cutting oil and get to work. order some new ones from champion, and put some antisize on them.

That's why they're coming off in the first place :D I've got Energy Suspension control arm bushings (front/rear), Tein Flex coils, ST sway bars and BIC endlinks. This thing's taking forever, and bushings are the hardest project I've undertaken yet :)

to avoid destroying the mouns surrounding the camber bolt, get yourself a die grinder and carbide de-burring bit. Cut off all of the protruding bolt you can, and grind the camber bolt shank where it passes through the subframe. Grind until the suspension arm is freed.

Removing the subframe makes the process much easier.

chip just get a fine tip torch cut the head off the bolt and cut most of the bolt that you can on the other side

take angle grinder tell you get as close as possible to the bolt the cam lobes on the head side of the bolt will fall off when the head is chopped or grinded off

take pickle for bent the sub frame a tad then wiggle out the arm

this all can be done with a angle grinder but it's a pain

by far the best method... and the only method that will save your bushings(if you wanted), is to use a ball joint press and use the open cup side over the head of the bolt while the other side of the press use a piece of thick scrap steel to press against the stud..

most of the time it will work very effectively

if it doesnt some out "easily" meaning without using a 5 ft breaker bar to turn the press bolt.. then it wont work and you'll press the sleeve through the ctrl arm mount... so dont go crazy

i tried a tie rod puller, ball joint remover and a 2 arm and 3 arm puller. couldn't find anything to get a grip. the die grinder worked like a charm, i was just afraid the wheel was gonna let loose and send some my way, but it held. apparently dewalt knows how to make them. it didn't really look like the dia was reduced any either.

I used a 4.5" cutoff wheel to cut off all the bolts on the front and rear of my car. Haven't done some on the rear yet, I'm getting to that very soon.

I went through two cutoff wheels per bolt, about...one for each side of the bolt. Takes me maybe 5 minutes to get them out now, you'll get used to it. The Energy Suspension bushings that are in there are amazing, the car has a nice tight feel to it now and no more squeaking.

I tried using a recip. saw with a metal cutoff blade but it barely cut through any of the bolt. The 4.5" discs I got from Sears work great.

I can't believe it but I was just going to post a thread with the exact same topic and question. Just spent the last 4 hours trying, prying, heating, freezing, bleeding in an effort to get just one of them out. The nut came off just fine, but the cap of the bolt and the off-center washer it is on are welded into the bushing. Man it sucks big time.

Not a bad price??? That is an incredible price where did you find them for that cheap? For example, Driftmotion charges $87 for the rear camber bolt set....
