My head and cams looked just like that and I reused em. My machine shop told me it would be no prob and it hasnt been so far.

Same deal on my first mkIII.... lol I just figured "no bearings... no problem" My shop told me the same thing when I got the head redone. If it's a DD and not a 450+hp car, I'd save the $700+ (or whatever) for something that I could use instead. But that's just me, read the sig... :icon_bigg

*edit*
Also, I have a question...

Why does everyone automatically replace the oilpump whent hey do a rebuild or get a JDM engine? Do they really fail that often or is it simply because a little bit of metal went through it? I can't see spending $200 on something that I have never had fail on me in the 7+ years I've been around Supras... Again, just me *read the sig*

I'm guessing the oil pump always gets replaced whenever you're down there just as good practice..considering if that fails, then all of your time, money, and effort that went into the engine were in vein...pretty self-explanitory I think....

I will disassemble an oil pump, clean it, oil it during reassembly, and then check it via the TSRM. I've been told that a lot of NEW pumps are out of spec concerning the clearances between the gears and housing. If you buy a new one, I would check it out.

You should also get a new oil cooler, and oil lines. Or clean out everything really well. There will be bits of metal in them.

^ never had to deal w/ oil lines on the mean mkII's, but will deffinitely remember on my mkIII now. Other than taking 10 mins to clean/reassemble, have you ever had any probs w/ them in any form Al?

wow, I wish I would have seen this thread earlier - those cams actually look pretty good.

I agree with IJ. There is nothing wrong with those cams. Most 7Ms, and I do mean most, will look exactly the same way. Lightly polish them and throw them back in.

Second shop I went to said the exact same thing. These guys are "the best of the best...... with honors!" Actuallly these guys are #1 here in town. They told me that I didn't have that big of a problem at all. They'll line hone it for $150. Their price on cams are $180 each. They ask me what else I wanted done to the head so I told them a valve job, adjust lash, and resurface the head for a MGH. $700 for the all the machine work including line honing. Cams are seperate. I asked for a mirror finish on the head and he showed me his work. One of his heads that was prepped for a MHG had what he claimed was a 1.0 or less RA. I looked glass smooth. Anyhow, it looks like I'll be going with them. I just need to work a little overtime now.
And how much domestic work do they do? I am guessing a bunch.

Are you guys serious you see that all the time? The only time I saw that was with upper engine knock.

Yeah, most neglected 7ms look like that, and run fine.
I do believe that loose cam tollerances are one of the culprits for low oil pressure in 7ms though...
