Make your car as quiet as possible. Put a catalyctic converter on your car because there r random smog check points on public roads. (Kinda like checkpoints foe drunk drivers. Cops will choose random cars to pull over to the side of the road and hook them up to the portable smog machine.)

Never heard of a cop doing that to anyone before, not to mention that I would kinda doubt that Ca would actually have the money to supply those or train the officer to use them for that matter.

Wake up, come down to socal from "slo-lewis obispo" and smell the smog. LOL.

Redacted per Title 18 USC Section 798
^ Some facts about California's Roadside Inspection Program:

1) The law specifies that only a CHP officer can direct vehicles out of traffic and into the test lane. Therefore BAR contracts with the CHP to perform this function. It is the officer's only duty at the inspection.

2) You can decline to be tested.

3) If you agree to the test and fail there are no penalties, emissions-related or otherwise.

The program's sole purpose is to collect data used in evaluating the normal Smog Check Program. It is not, and never was, designed to "catch" people. What it has done is revealed serious flaws in the normal system and because of it big changes are in the works...

Atsushi:

Obey Ca laws. When u get here, make sure u have a cat on your car.

Setting the "facts" aside, let's consider the reality and a couple of scenarios:

Scenario 1: If a driver declined to get on the roadside smog check, what keeps the CHP from pulling the driver over after passing the smog station, inspect the car, and possibly issuing a citation(s)?

Scenario 2: The catless driver for whatever reason decided to volunteer to get on the smog machine and failed the test miserably. Even though the driver is not assessed penalties for not passing the test, what keeps the chp from pulling the driver over after leaving the smog station, inspect the car, and issue a citation(s)?

Perhaps it wouldn't be a bad idea to listen to california supramania members , who have experience daily motoring on california roads, and with experience dealing with california law officers?

I agree 100%. Even better would be to listen to one who is all of that and knows the emissions laws inside out. One who has been driving in the state and dealing with this stuff for over 30 years and one who is pleased the big changes coming will stop people who flaunt the law dead in their tracks. Especially the punks in SoCal...

^ Mobile randon smog checks:
They do profile is not 100% random if your blowing by with cam lobbing idle no cat import its a guarantee the cop will flag you smog you and inspect your vehicle.
Also if you goto huge events like car meets they will sit a block away and nail you which I seen done at the sanmarcos in & out meets.
The only thing that will save you on the roadside ones is an AWD car.

If you fail a roadside one & just got a smog done by a hook up or buddy they will goto the guy that passed your car and nail him also.

can you get a ticket for a faulty hood release? i know a guy that moved the "real" release to a different location so nobody could open it but him.

I think I will stay put, cops up here are more worried about byciclists running stop signs than a slightly modified car.:icon_razz

If you refuse to pop a hood for a cop when requested he will impound the car for 30 days you will pay impound towing fees ~2-3000
On top of that he just haves to say probable cause get a warrent ect.
He knows you can open the hood dont refuse.

However there is some cool tricks out there!
Paint everything black IC IC plumbing BOV Wastegate fuel regulator no neon hoses samco stuff etc all black is good no shiny things.
Wrap everything its hard to tell what exhaust is on there if its burried in heat shields & heat wrap.
Also have CABO EO stickers ready and in place.
Also if you have large heat shields in the engine bay covering goodies a cop isnt going to grab a 10mm wrench and take off your heat shields/ covers.
So if you had a large heat shield that covered the whole engine bay after you open the hood for example and its bolted in place he cant take your car apart.

that's what I'm in the process of doing, I've already replaced 2 of my old blue couplers with black ones, changed all the previous vacuum lines and used black silicone, and I'm also recirculating my BOV. I already painted a lower IC pipe flat black, well it's kinda flat, I used a rubberized spray called Palsti-dip on my BOV pipe, and am going to do the others soon. I'm also sourcing a heatshield to cover my downpipe, we'll see how that goes..

currently, except I now have my boost gauge line inside a vacuum tube, for the stealth factor..

best part is only prep was wiping it down with a towel, there's no sanding or primer needed, and it's heat resistant...

also, you can add more coats to fix any blemishes, or peel it off entirely...
