Hey guys, just wondering what would happen to my California-spec Supra if I switch over to a non-California ECU?

Besides the secondary O2 sensor, what is different..?

well, my 7m is a JDM version, so I'm sure the EGR isn't hooked up (I had a shop swap it in), and since my secondary 02 sensor isnt hooked up either, It's causing my engine to run super rich, and my CEL to turn on (checked codes, it's definitely the only thing causing my light)...

If I swap over the non-cali ECU, will my CEL turn off, and my car run normally, or must I tune it..?

How easy are JDM ECU's to get a hold of? I would think that would be the easiest match up, but the non-cali ecu would get rid of anything related to that second O2 sensor since the non-cali ecu doesn't know of any such O2 sensor. ;)

I dont think there are many differences at all between the JDM GE's and the non-cali US ones. I could be wrong though. :dunno:

RazoE - A non-CA ECU will get rid of the EGR and secondary O2 codes....it should run fine as is assuming you have not done any other mods.

You are going to have a problem passing CA emissions with no EGR though and the fuel/timing MAP is programmed on USDM ECU's with the EGR in place. A JDM ECU does not have the EGR provision.

An interesting tidbit: Because my test is due I was recently driving around with my gas analyzer on the car and for shits and giggles disconnected the EGR. While NOx did increase at no time did it exceed Cali cutoff points. This implies as long as the engine is running right into a good catalyst, and assuming he can get by the visual, it might pass. Then again it might not because I doubt my car is typical.

Btw the secondary O2 sensor missing has nothing to do with the car running rich. The MIL can be addressed by using one of the many cheap sensor simulators out there.
