does anyone know of a free cad program that is pretty good. i have one but its like associated with a machine shop so i cant save and send to my own maschinist so you have to have them do it unless you write down every measurement and save screen shots and i jsut want a better one.

Qcad is 2D, and I absolutely love the interface.

Solidworks isn't difficult to use, and I like the ability to animate in SW.

SketchUp now by google is a free program which is actually really versatile. With that said, you do have to buy the retail version if you want to export files for use in other 3D programs.

ashlar-vellum cobalt. its nowhere near free unless you know where to look.

i was spoiled with ashlar-vellum long ago and have since been unable to put-up with anything else since. its incredibly intuitive and works exactly the way i want it to. i have tried several others since, including the latest offerings from autocad and solidworks and always get frustrated quickly and go back to ashlar.

i should note i only use CAD as hobby and NOT work so i use it intermittently and dont have the time or patience to properly learn all the ins and outs of any program. thats the great thing about ashlar, i dont have to waste time learning it, as most everything just works exactly the way i would think it would work.

well right now im using an 08 edtion of turbocad, witch right now im working on a 3D useable interface workings of a 1JZ bottom end, with all the specs in it for later use.. out of four rendering programs i think this one happens to be one of the best for the ease of use and interface.
