(I hope this makes sense) I have one minor problem: I'm trying to get more adjustment from my c.p.s.
My timming is at ten degress b.t.c. But my c.p.s. is all the way cranked over clock wise. Do I rotate both the gear and housing clockwise to get more laditude for more adjustment? ( I want more retard) Another words it's at full stop clockwise, and my timing is at ten degress is the most I can retard it. Which way do I rotate the c.p.s. for more retard? How many degress is one tooth? A smog tech said that if I retard the timming more, that would help out on the smog numbers. I failed the " h.c" and "n.o".
I thought you would advance not retard timming for better smog reading.

Your CPS is off by a tooth. Remove the cover, slide it out enough that you can rotate the center, and turn it one tooth clockwise, then put it back together and retime it.

Agreed. :)

Grim Jack,

So, leave the housing where it's at, but rotate the gear only, clock wise "one" tooth, is that right??
I guess, You lost me, you can't rotate the center unless you unbolt the housing from the head, and then turn the gear, I'm not understanding your directions? I'll get back to ya,...alright guys thanks, I'll check it out,..after lunch

Unbolt the CPS assembly. Remove it. Turn just the gear that rides on the cam. Put it back in. Re-time.

Yep, I think that's what these guys are saying, cause as far as I know, you can't rotate it unless you unbolt it from the head, I guess they thought I knew better, so they didn't mention it. I think we were talking about two different ways of doing the same thing.

thanks guys!!!

Correct, you have to remove the bolt that holds it in place.

You do not have to slide the CPS all the way out, however, just far enough that you can turn the center by hand.

Hey Grim Jack, I thought about what you said, and yes, it does make sense, and I think it's a better way of doing it. I used to pull it out all the way, turn the whole assembly and put "er" back in. I gonna try it your way. The way your doing it, it sounds like you don't have to take off the power steering bracket. Your way sounds like the gear will have less chance of moving, also I think it's easier to tell if youv'e one tooth. rather than moving the whole assembly,.Does retarding the timming help with emmission??.Thanks I gonna try it tomorrow.
