I think i missed quite a few spots, but after putting that last layer of filler on it... i just didn't feel like waiting to sand it again... the fact that i hadn't eaten anything yet might have demotivated me a bit too haha.

But seriously, i love putting new stuff on the supra. It's the sanding that's really starting to bug me though.

Last sunday i finally picked up the sandpaper again. Didn't get anything done during the winter because i sure as hell wasn't going to freeze my ass off. That said, trying to apply bodyfiller in sub-zero temps isn't really all that either haha.

Anyway, i did some more work today with my newly found sanding techniques. Apparently i've been sanding wrong for the past 4 years.... which is probably also the real reason why i kept finding new low-spots each and every time i picked up a block. I found that i was supposed to use an X pattern and move the block sideways, not back and forth... Oh well ...

Anyway, i've tried to take some pictures last sunday but they all turned up completely white due to the huge amount of dust in the air. More or less the same happened today.

Another stupid thing was that when i was sanding the hatch in the middle, where normally the stock 3pc wing would be mounted, i realised that my regulus wing only has two "legs" on the ends... So i whipped out my anglegrinder and rubbertipped hammer, slapped the holes down a bit as they were a highspot too and sanded it down to bare metal. Then i applied two layers of woven fibreglass to cover the holes and serve as a base for the filler. I DON'T want that to ever come off again.

After that i started sanding on the targa/roof and luckily there weren't any real difficulties there, just a couple of minor scratches from the tools and stuff that was piled on the targa before. I did however apply a bit of filler to the "borders" of the targa so i can make a smoot transition between the targa and the windshieldsupports and that "bar" behind the targa.

Maybe if i can find some time tomorrow i'll do some more sanding, for now i need to get me some food first.

Well progress... there isn't any really haha. Not since i last posted in this thread in July. Sadly. Didn't even realise it took me so long to pick up some sandpaper again. I think that also shows you why this build is taking so damn long. Obviously my business is taking up a lot of my time, winter didn't help either and lack of motivation has been an issue as well.

When i started youtubing for paintprep vids i discovered that everyone in the vids was using a similar sanding pattern. When i was told to use an X pattern by Exvelocity on SF i started to discover what that similar pattern actually was. That's why i even went outside last sunday, not even intending to do any real work on the car. But nevertheless i was in the garage, sanding like a madman and covering more ground in those two hours than i did in the last two years. Somehow that sparked a little interest again, even for sanding. Although i don't think i'll ever start on a project this big again. Not by myself atleast.

As for the color, i'm going to use "Panther Black Mica". I've used it in my enginebay and it looks stunning, even when shot by yours truly. It's black, obviously, with a metallic effect and it has a very light greenish hue in sunlight if you look at it from a certain angle. You do really have to look for it though, it's not a paint that will make one side of the car black and another side green.

I'm still a little strapped for time, but hopefully i can get some more work done tomorrow or sunday. I'll take some pictures then as i've planned to do some work on the skirts too. I'll grab some pics of my slapped down section on my hatch as well. If there's anything else you'd like to see specifically, let me know and i'll try to shoot some pics and put em on here.

hey dude it's about time you start driving that thing again lol :)

Haha, yeah it's about time. But you've got to make money to be able throw it in the bottomless pit called "My Projectcar". Work before pleasure is what people call it i believe ;)

I was "at it" today ;) Well the afternoon and a couple of hours into the evening until the misses called me in for dinner. I'll have some more info on that and some pictures later tonight.

The intercooler is a very basic thing, 3" in/outlet and a 3" core. Sadly one of the only ones i could easily get my hands on so the core itself is probably not too highend but i'm certain it's an improvement over the stock dented one i have. As for length and height of the core... i'd have to measure that. I do know it's the biggest i could fit within the frame.

Updatetime :)

Friday i mentioned that i was putting a little filler on the "borders" of the targa, windshieldsupports and the bar behind the targa. I grabbed a couple of pics of that this afternoon.

The front of the targa, driversside, turned out to be a "bit" to thick in the end
supra-roof-1.jpg

Front of the bar, driversside, less heavy/thick, but still a bit much.
supra-roof-2.jpg

And now it's gone, well most of it anyway. I'm not completely happy with it yet though.
supra-roof-3.jpg

And the thicker front again, took me a bit longer than i hoped for.
supra-roof-4.jpg

Did the rest of the bar as well, no idea why i didn't do that friday...
supra-roof-5.jpg

And the same goes for the targa's front.
supra-roof-6.jpg

Then i started sanding on one of the most obvious panels of the car, luckily it had no real big defects. However there is some chipping on the edges that i haven't treated yet.
supra-door-1.jpg

When i was satisfied/fed up with the door, i moved onto what i thought was a reasonable good panel. However, all those spots indicate that i have quite a bit of sanding to do.
supra-fender-1.jpg

But eventually i got all the major defects out. Obviously it needs a coat of primer and some more blocking...
supra-fender-2.jpg

Ah, the spot i almost forgot about. The fiberglass cured for about a day and a half.
supra-trunklid-1.jpg

I cleaned it with some thinner, roughed it up a bit with some 180 grit and then applied filler. Letting it cure overnight now.
supra-trunklid-2.jpg

The one thing that i'm seeing quite a lot is paneledges chipping. In the picture above you can clearly see that the top of the fender, where it meets the top of the door and the bottom of the A pillar, is very damaged. I'm not quite sure how i'm going to fix that because adding filler would just be pointless. Fiberglass resin is obviously not going to work either. Any help would be appreciated here :)

Sadly the misses called me in for dinner, otherwise i might have even tackled the other right front fender or door. Tomorrow i plan on doing a lot more. The trunklid has priority right now, with the passengersside door following closely. Hopefully i can also tackle that other front fender. Maybe i can get around to both skirts tuesday, unless something else comes up that is (like actual work :X).

nice! looks like it will be a bit long before its done, but it should turn out great! where are you going to do the painting? and it seems you didnt cover your seats during sanding... >.< at least u got leather seats they wont really embed deep into the seats unlike cloths

The entire interior is covered in dust. I have cleaned it out several times, but with all the sanding it is bound to get back in everywhere anyway. Plus the leather will be replaced down the road anyway because it is effing dry. The back seats have tears in the leather and the driversseat has some fraying as well. Unless i can salvage it somehow down the road of course.

Panther Black Mica. Black metallic with a green, almost pearlescent, hue under very direct sunlight and at certain angles only. Hardly noticeable, so basically it's a dark black metallic.

Just finished uploading the new pics. Which means... updatetime :)

Sanded down the rough patch i had yesterday and put a second layer of filler on it to straighten the last bits out.
supra-trunklid-3.jpg

Perfectly straight. From what i can feel by hand anyway. We'll see how it looks after it gets primered
supra-trunklid-4.jpg

While sanding down the edges of the targa to try and flow into the windshieldsupport, i found this... the thing wasn't completely straight.
supra-roof-9.jpg

I had to clean the windshield to put some tape on it. That way i can damage the brand new thing less easily while sanding the supports.
supra-windshield-1.jpg

You can actually look THROUGH the windshield !!
supra-windshield-2.jpg

And taped up

supra-windshield-3.jpg

Added a little filler and left it to cure overnight
supra-roof-9.jpg

The frontright fender was in the same condition as the other fender, LOTS of dimples, scratches and high/low spots.
supra-fender-3.jpg

And more sanding, unfortunately this nosepiece sagged a little. I'm trying to save it like this, otherwise i'm going to replace it. As you can see i also sanded the headlight covers... no idea why as they are being replaced xD
supra-nosepiece-1.jpg

Anyway, this was another solid 6 hours of sanding, no break, no drink, no nothing. Hopefully i can find some more time tomorrow too.

Well, it's update time again. The last time i worked on the car i was about ready to push my skirts through the woodchipper because i couldn't get them to fit and align like i wanted them to. Gladly i calmed down, let the thing sit for a couple of days and then looked at it again.

At first i was going to do what Tekdeus told me before, however, when i rolled the supe out of the garage today it quickly became clear that i overreacted and things weren't nearly as bad as i first thought they were. I really went shutterbuttonhappy today so here are a bunch of pictures :)

When i took these pics i was thinking **wingless**
supra-100406-1830.jpg

supra-100406-1831.jpg

supra-100406-1832.jpg

Then i was wondering what it'd look like with the Regulus wing on it...
supra-100406-1837.jpg

supra-100406-1838.jpg

supra-100406-1839.jpg

supra-100406-1840.jpg

That's when i thought... to hell with wingless ;) and also when i spotted the supe's reflection in the windows of the neighbors garage/workshop
supra-100406-1836.jpg

A little later i realized that it was time to start cleaning that thing up, especially on the inside. Not today however.
supra-100406-1833.jpg

supra-100406-1834.jpg

supra-100406-1835.jpg

And then it was time to actually do something worthwhile besides taking pics for this thread ;)

I had lined up the rear upright section of the skirt with the door and the S2 q-panel and positioned it with some nifty tools. I put a big socket between the extension plate in the wheelwell and the skirts' upright which bent it toward the car.
supra-100406-1841.jpg

Then i needed to pull the top of the upright outwards a little. Nifty tool huh ? Yes that's a wheelstud. I have 10 of those... all 15mm longer than stock bolts.... all too short for my liking though ;)
supra-100406-1842.jpg

After that i managed to put two layers of woven fiberglass on again. Should look the same as the one on the other side.
supra-100406-1843.jpg

While that was curing i was getting bored. Yes bored, even with that much left to do. Then my eye fell on the midsection of the taillights.
supra-100406-1844.jpg

I knew it needed a good polishing because it was scratched quite bad, as you can clearly see.
supra-100406-1845.jpg

A little elbow grease and some Commandant nr.4 (which is more of a cleaner than anything else) left me with this result.... IT SHINES!!!
supra-100406-1846.jpg

Of course i had to put it back on the car and it will probably get scratched and dirty again, but for now... i have 1 shiny part on the exterior of my car....
supra-100406-1847.jpg

After a couple of hours, polishing, dinner and pushing the car back into the garage, the resin had finally cured enough for the skirts to be removed. Needs a little sanding methinks...
supra-100406-1848.jpg

supra-100406-1849.jpg

That's all for tonight. The supe is back in the garage and hopefully i'll be able to do a little more work on it tomorrow and friday.
