I think I'd asked about this a while ago, but this "ass-hole"(think meet the fockers) called me today after 3 months of no contact.

The car's a 1990 Ice blue turbo/targa(doesnt leak). If I remember correctly it had shadow grey int.--but that's 91+ right? I guess if it was a late model 90 it could've had it?? Other than the stock CD player the car is fully loaded including factory alarm. It's an automatic (yeah I know, bleh) and the TEMS works. It also only has 159k miles on it.

PROBLEM is...the moron ran it without coolant for 6 months and had the motor lock up on him while he was driving it.

Going price--he only wants $1000 for it. I'm thinking it's a great deal because of the shape of the exterior (paint is a little faded, no peeling of the clear coat. no rust whatsoever) and the interior (made my mom's 2003 neon look dirty). The undercarriage is also very clean. No more than a tiny bit of surface rust here and there--nothing a piece of sand paper couldn't fix.

SO, let me know what you all think about this. I want a professional opinion before I go blowing a grand...

think about it,for around 3 grand you coul have a good supra with about 30,000 to 50,000 on the motor, and only 150k on the chassis. get one of those jap motors and have a pro put it in for ya

Do it.

If it is truly a stock shadow-grey interior, Supras with that interior are highly sought-after.

Even if it isn't, that's still not a bad deal for a chassis that's in good shape.

So it's official, I'm picking up the car wednesday :) Thousand dollars cash for a really clean turbo targa. YAY ME! About damn time I finally own a Supra. Been worshiping the fuckers for 2 years now and FINALLY get my hands on one. I'm ecstatic. Thanks for all your input guys!

WeDgE--That's the other thing I'm thinking. I grew up with Matt Johnson's grandson (if you know who Matt Johnson is--somewhat famous here in missouri engine builder) so he's supposed to cut me a deal on rebuilding it. So yeah I'm thinking that'll be the way to go. JE forged pistons, crower rods, the works. Get 'er blueprinted and balanced, port & polish the head, etc...

well...knowing that your starting off w/ 15-30k miles on the motor...i'd feel safter. But there is nothing wrong w/ a rebuild. It CAN be cheaper if you know how to spend money right.
