Hey guys, I hope this is in the right fourm. I bought a used USDM 7M-GTE just so I can drive my supra right now until my Subbie is done. My subbie should be done in a good month or two. I do not know exactly how many miles are on the motor, I will to find out tomorrow. My question is should I do something to the motor so it can be reliable? Such as do a head gasket job? or change something? While the motor is out. Please let me know. Thanks SM.

I would also do a headgasket and I would also do the main/rod bearings. My JDM motor I pad $990.00:aigo: did not even last 41 miles before I got a BHG:icon_evil. even though I was going to do that later I just wanted to have a good running Supra for a year but that did not work out.

If you're buying a JDM motor think about these things:
-Pulling it completely apart and replacing...well as much as you can
-Make SURE you replace the Oil pressure sensor with a USDM one, ask me how I know
-Get a MHG, ARP studs, a tube or two of Toyota black seal maker, a gasket kit, new better hardware for the valve covers.

Do it once, do it right. I really mean it

You do not NEED a mhg but it won't hurt, the OEM gasket is great when torqued down properly. At minimum have the head checked for smoothness but having the block done as well is best. ARP studs are always a good idea. Oil pump and bearings should be replaced as well. If you can, do the valve seals since it will save you possible trouble later.
That's just off the top of my head.

CLEAN the engine out on top of those other things. Replace the water pump too, check for stress in the bottom end, shim the valves up top, free port and polish if you already have the materials to do it with... Things like that ;).

What's with this "ask me how I know" shit? Just tell them. If you leave a JDM oil pressure sending unit on it will fry your oil pressure gauge like this

That's how I know. Get you a new USDM one from Toyota.

I say spend your money elsewhere besides on a JDM engine as you can get a USDM for cheaper and you will still have to do the same shit to to make sure that it is reliable ;).

But then again, the OP has done this already (smart fella).

Thanks guys. I'm going to take this into thought. I get a 60-90 day warrenty on the motor anyways so I'll make sure to do it in those days. Also it IS a USDM motor, NOT a JDM motor. I read about them and I didnt feel like going through the change overs. Where can I buy a MHG and the ARP studs??
