1jz is much stronger and rev happy:icon_bigg 7500-8000 , the engine is known as a bullet "proof engine" because of it ability to make massive amounts of power (700whp more or less) on an internally stock long block.
7m cannot hold that amount of power with out upgrading the internals.

The rules of buying a supra / 1JZ is the same as it would be for buying one with a 7mgte.

Look at the quality of work, especially wiring harness.
Look at the engine bay and check for leaks etc.
You can check the exhaust in the back for excessive blow by - this will tell you if the turbos are blown or on its way out.
Drive the car and see how it runs and boosts.
Check the gauges when you drive it to make sure everything is working in order.
Does the 1JZ engine meet your state's emissions requirements?

i believe the 1jz has a metal head gasket vs. a cosmetic gasket on the 7m. the 1jz's overall potential is so much greater and when a lil honda or eclipse thinks he is gonna spank ya he better think again unless he got a ton dumped under the hood. get a bigger intercooler and unchoke the factory crap and get a nice exhaust, a boost controller and afpr and maybe some electronics depending on how bad u want to kill ur victim. me im goin single and getting some 550cc injectors and i have a 28x11x3 intercooler and getting a hks ssqv bov and run about 16psi and u can easily make 500hp. 7m's have poor head work vs. a jz motor. the 1jz would be in ur best interest. if the car is in good condition and motor runs smooth to power band and has no leaks i would go for it. how much does he want for it and does it have and upgrades or is it all factory? those are the questions u need to ask urself. the parts needed to do a jz swap so far im up to about $8k so go from there.

It is also wrong.

Don't turn this into a 7M bashing thread guys...

My first concern would be the quality of the wiring. If it looks Micky mouse, walk away.

1JZ's are not prone to blowing head gaskets. It isnt the HG that is bad in the 7m, it is the factory torque specs that cause the BHG. 7m's are excellent motors, as long as the HG was done right! by getting the block and head machined, making sure it isnt warped, using a MHG with arp studs and a 7m is basically as good of an engine as a 1JZ. just not as re-defined...
