I am shopping for a project supra. Several of the ones I have found dont have engines. I have found a '87 7M-GTE. Here are my questions:

Will this engine fit in all the MKIII chasis?
What transmissions will work with this engine?

Do you have any suggestions or tips in this process? I am new to the supra but have always wanted one.

Yes the 7mgte will fit in a MKIII. You can use a R154 manual transmission or an A340E automatic transmission. You can also use the W58 but they're not as strong as the r154. Good luck.

Thanks SupraHero. The ECM has to match the engine AND tranny, correct?

Easiest would be to find a complete car/engine and rebuild from there. My first supra (black one), I made the mistake of getting a rolling chassis w/ ecu/harness and a disassembled long block missing sensors and parts. I originally had a complete rebuilt engine I was going to buy that got sold from under me which is why I had to find another block. I spent ages on here in the F/S section looking for the missing parts i.e. almost every engine bolt, knock sensors, coolant neck, engine mount brackets ect.

Good luck!!!

Thanks kneedragger85!!!! That is what I really wanted to know. I think, based on your experience, I will pass on the rolling chasis plan. I really appreciate your reply.
