The question that should be asked IMO is which MOD will yield more HP per dollar spent and if you are willing to spend that much on it not which one is BETTER. Do you agree?

That's easy and that was my whole point. hp/dollar investment... A standalone can yield more peak power, power under the curve, even better MPG hands down than a Mine's ECU priced at 1800 dollars...

AF: Sure, the Mine's ECU is great. If you found one for around that price range(around 500), it's worth picking up. Otherwise, you can always use piggy backs too if you don't want to invest in a standalone...

I can't believe your saying a 10+ year old ecu is going to be better than a newer standalone on reliablity. I know people with stock ECU's and there car still runs like shit. Standalones have newer proccessors and if you have it done right you get a new wiring harness too! I think the stinger comes in at 850 with flying harness. So my opinion would be that spending 1k more than a standalone on old tech. is completely pointless.

I agree....EVERYONE i know that has a stand-alone tunes their car to its limits. Its just something you do. I however, do not agree with the price, or that you cant play with it a little. Maybe if stand-alones could adjust upon time of day, temp, timing, etc they would be a lot better, but its hard for most people to create a smooth tune. Any reason why Mines is so good?

My car is a daily driver with cold a/c, cruise control, everything else you could ever want in a car. I put the key in, start the car, and drive wherever, whenever, any weather, any kind of traffic condition. If i need gas, i put some in. I change my oil every 3k miles. The hood never gets lifted unless someone ask's at a car meet. I average nearly 25mpg and make over 400whp 93 octane.

Please tell me why I would want to switch to a stand alone, where i'd have to carry a laptop with me everywhere to adjust the settings? For what, a 20whp gain in power?

I don't see a single benefit on a street car. Anyone from the age of 16 years old to 100 years old can drive my car without any prior instruction compared to any other car across the country if they wished. Please tell me the benefits of a stand alone compared to that.

Why don't you answer my question? :stickpoke

Is it or is it not your opinion that a 1800 dollar Mine's ECU is a better investment than a standalone EMS??

I asked you so many pages ago and all you do is tap dance around the question like usual. Maybe you won't answer because you know saying yes would sound silly.

This is worse then a holley vs. carter carburator war. Yeah the holley will get you a tad more HP, but you'll be turning screws all day to make the car work, when the carter will never let you down, but make a few less ponies.

this is tissimo posting at csnow's house, I drive my 2j car daily, never mess wit hthe aem at all, in fact I dont even have o2 correction at all! (wideband died) and I still get 20-22 mpg no problems, drives awesome, makes great power and never have to mess with it.

If you have to tune it daily you need a new tuner.

I will drive to CO, you pay for gas and my time and I will not need to tune it at all. Why would I need to anyways? what perameters would I have retune? the car is map based so it will compensate for elevation changes, it is o2 corrected so it will compensate in closed loop like the stock ecu.

how about you order your Mines ecu, we'll dyno in FL then drive to CO and dyno, see which will make more power in both areas?

I guess im split right down the middle where if you make it a hobby and like to tweak allot an AEM is defiantly a good choice but, you have to admit every time I see you guys talking about a dyno run or a run at the drag strip its always followed buy a comment like "with a shity tune" . I'm sure with enough time and effort things will get better.

A tuned ECU is sweet for the set it and forget it guy, which I can relate too as I just like to drive and not think about all my maps/percentages/perimeters and such.A little pricey but if that is what you really want then is it really? I would also stay clear of anything that comes out of MTR as I have seen there hack jobs first hand and with that dude Ric being there cheerleader that's enough of a combo to scare anyone.

This is a funny thread.

I daily drive my supra about 30 miles EACH way to work. WITH standalone I got better gas mileage since I could tune it with the WB02 in ALL driving ranges (idle, cruise, 1/4 throttle, 1/2 throttle, 3/4 throttle, full throttle, blahblahblah). EGT's in the 800C range, A/F's (WOT) 11.0, shitty 89 octane gas with WI running if more than 10 psi of boost. I run 1.0 on the street. 1.3~1.5 (kg/cm2) with WI, 100 octane, or both.

standalone w/ WB02 ......................$1000
Toughbook....................................$500
Smart enough to tune my own shit....priceless

Took me about 2 weeks to FULL tune. But that's only driving it to work and back  It only took maybe 2 hrs to do the WOT tune. cruising was a little more difficult. Partial throttle tunes is the bitch.

Laptop stays at the house. The tune is complete. Now I put the key in and drive the car. A/C, P/S, sunroof, fuzzy dice. I even take my family to the mall with my supra.

I can get an AEM for $1450 new and a tune is $360 from Alpha in Tampa including dyno time. The ECU is also kind a hobby. I look forward to learning more about EFI tunning and tweaking it down the road.

$1700 bucks to modify a stock ECU. That is a too much....sorry.

Exactly what I was thinking - FTW
