basically, whenever the car runs for awhile and warms up, i get a strong odor and a slight amount of white smoke [oil?] from the front of the engine towards the radiator. it is right by the power steering resevoir but down by the exhaust manifold. i do have a slight leak off of my valve covers due to a couple missing nuts and im planning on replacing the gaskets there. it just happened and the gaskets/valve cover leak condition has been that way since i drove it back from arkansas. the first picture shows a general area of it and the 2nd picture shows a closer up view. u can probably see a little bit of oil around the area. anyways, any idea what could be causing this? ehxuast leak? i am not throwing any codes either:biglaugh:

thanks!

is it a coolent type smell?
if so there is a small 90 degree hose back in there. That could be your problem.

And replace the valve fover gaskets also.

if u see the little green clip sitting there that is where its at. it appears to be lower down. its really hard to see where it is coming from.

coolant smell? thank god ive never had to smell burning coolant yet. hopefully its just oil.

It's actually an O-ring. Make sure your motor is at TDC and take the CPS cover off 1st...note the position of the pick-up. Remove CPS and you'll see it around the CPS shaft.

kk, thanks for the headsup. i also was hearing a slight bubbling sound under the hood when i pulled into my driveway to let it cooldown. sounded like there was a little air in the radiator.

potential problem? could this be an effect of the cps o ring? u said to watch coolant levels so maybe...

The bubbling sound cant be good. Had a car overheat on me and didn't notice it until i got out of the car and heard the noise, next thing i knew coolent was everwhere. Thank god it was my corolla instead of my supra. lol

There is a small 90 degree-bent coolant hose behind the power steering reservoir on the engine block. To check it you have to remove the reservoir bolts. And don't disconnect the power steering fluid lines just move the reservoir aside. My supra suffered the same symtoms a was a that broken hose. My advice is to check that hose first.

hah. change your screen resolution...

my name is badass FTW!

nope it clearly your problem.

second, i forbid you from coming back to SM until you get your car in tip top shape. you are missing a few bolts/washers for the cam covers?! humm wonder if that has something to do with you leak.... cps is more than likely leaking too and that should be addressed sooner rather than later. i reallllllllllly dont want to read a thread about you 3 months down the road having rodknock and wondering why the 7m is so bad etc etc because you didnt do the small fixes now and were lazy.

ps. fix your sn

I have a ? 4 you------> Why would you run your car with Nuts or bolts missing and ask where the smoke could be coming from? Maybe oil leaking on your exhuast manifold from the vavle covers.

Bubbling behind the dash just means there is air in your heater matrix, could be the first symptoms of a BHG but more than likely its the heater control valve. Get a shroud for your radiator/fan because the fan isn't very efficent without it. Should fix all the little problem with your car because un checked they can turn to BIG problems real fast.
