Burning through Clutches

It seems like I am just burning through my clutches.

1st set- Ebay XTD set...I figure it was because of the XTD scam. Lasted 1500 miles...not driven hard.

2nd set- RPS 3200 Max Pressure Plate with Stock Turbo Disc...felt good at first but now it seems to have soften up...doesn't feel like slipping, but does not pull as hard anymore. It feels like the clutch is heating up to the point where it wants to slip but has not...This set is still in the car.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated and I am thinking that it might be the disc, so I am contemplating on putting in an ACT 6puck sprung disc.

Mods- 50 trim ct26, LIPP downpipe elbow, running 10 psi, bypassed EGR.

Could be that the clutch is broken in...it'll lose some of that 'grabbiness' after break-in. Also, it'll depend on your driving style -- you ride the clutch too much, and you'll wear it out faster and/or glaze the disc/flywheel over, causing it to not grab as hard.

Thanks for all the responses.
I did not adjust the pedal due to the fact that there is no play and it comes out further than my brake pedal, but I did bleed the clutch.
I resurfaced the flywheel before putting on the clutch.
The awkward thing is that it went from being soft and not grabby to grabby then back to soft. I've never experienced that before, but then again it might be different from car to car.
I don't typically ride the clutch, but that is not to rule out driver error as suggested due to the very stiff pedal feel.
So what would you guys recommend next then...new clutch set or just change out the disc and have the flywheel resurface??? Thanks again everyone for your help.

It's supposed to have freeplay...

Also, if the flywheel wasn't surfaced correctly (backstep) it will slip.

Speaking of clutches (sorry to threadjack) -- before I slap my motor and tranny back together, I'm going to be using the original clutch and flywheel from when I pulled it. Do I need to resurface the flywheel, or will it be ok since I'm matching it back up with the same clutch disc?

Depends on the condition of the flywheel. If it looks good, and you had no problems before, it should be OK. Getting it resurfaced though, is cheap insurance.

As it's all worn together, it's fine. Resurface will just mean you have to break the clutch in again...

could always be a oil leak inside the gearbox, this destroyed one of my clutches. if its a R154 pull off the inspection plate and take a look inside the bell housing... should be pretty obvious.
