I have had many proplems and now i have declared it BSOD or blue smoke of death!!! My car smokes blue smoke all the time and I think it keeps getting worse. I have searched but nothing came up for my problem. First of all I did a cmplete rebuild of the engine with mhg and arps. New pistons and rings too. 500 miles down the road i got rod knock. Took the engne out and got the crank looked at and it was fine. Got new rod and main bearings. I never took out the pistons. While the engine was on a cart one foot off the ground It fell off the cart and hit the oil pan then fell on the turbo. No cracks luckily. Put the motor in and it smokes blue smoke now. It didn't before. So I did a compression test and all as good. So I replaced the valve seals. They were pretty shot but still smokeing. The plugs are fine too. So I took gf the downpipe off the turbo and started it up. First condensation cam from the turbo then oil started commg out and dripping all over everything in that area. So I think it is the turbo. No oil in the compressor housing or pipes. So I took off the turbo and the was oil in the turbo manifold also. How'd did that get there? Could have dripped from the turbine down into the manifold? Please help I so desperate and upset!!!! Please help

a) I've NEVER seen a motor get rod knock and the crank was 'just fine' - always a micropolish at least needed, and the rods checked to be true.

b) Sounds like you did some internal damage to the turbo oiling - you're looking at a new turbo if that is case. You'll probably be best served to send the turbo to a Pro to have them check it out.

c) How did you seat the rings? Considering you got rod knock before the motor was even broken in, I'm going to have to call your ability into question here - are you certain you didn't leave out any of the piston rings, or align them incorrectly?

d) All things considered, I'd look at your turbo first.

I did get tv crank inspected by a repudable shop and he cleaned and inspected everything and everything was in spec. The bearings failed to to dirty oil. The rings were seated and I was still breaking the engine when the knock occurred. The weird thing is it didn't smoke before and now it does. Assuming the only bad thing that happened as I dropped the engine on the turbo. Oh and there is shaft play up and down about 1/2 a cm. It has always been there though

inspect your turbo, I bet the bearing is toast..

Would that leak oil into the exhaust area because there is no oil in the compressor housing or if pipes or 3000 pipe. It's only on exaust side.

could be your valve stem seals

Oh forgot to mention that. Thy was the first thing I tried. They were shot on the exhaust side but on the intake side they looked good. Replaced em all and still no luck.

the bearings in the turbo dont have to go for the seals to go bad

are there seals on the shaft in the exhaust housing that could be leaking into the turbo?

I have seen a kit on driftmotion but it didn't look like it had any oil seals. Is it a rubber seal like normal seals?

Hell no - it's not even technically a 'seal' per se - it uses a sealing ring (think like a piston ring) that keeps oil from flowing out. You may have busted that.

Send the turbo to have it inspected, or buy a used good one to toss on and compare.

Mine wasn't even broke. Worse than that. it had basically welded itself together at the ends, and then proceeded to wear out it's seat on the turbine shaft. It was all bad... I'm pretty sure it was bov failure that caused the damage in the first place.
