great it wasn't the starter, it seems as tho i'm having that notorious starter issue with the stock electrical system. i hear the starter relay click but i guess there is not enough current to engage the solenoid.

^ i was looking at this as well, but why put a bandaide on it and not fix the problem... does anyone know if the clutch pedal switch can hold 30 amps? the wire comming off it looks to be about 10 or 12 gauge. (in the stock wiring its used to turn on and off a simple relay, but i'm pretty sure it can support more if i rewire it)
car works.... but f'in kids.... i was driving around my neighborhood slowly and this kid jumps off his skateboard and it slams into the side of my car. good thing i see no dents... just scratches... he also chipped my side skirt... i think i broke his board in half with my rear tire tho so it makes it even, but it still blows.

The relay "mod" isn't a bandaid fix, it's a real method that most car manufacturers use. I'd wire a starter relay in line and enjoy the luxury of the starter working all the time. lol

yeah dude i understand the arguement that youre 'band-aiding' the problem, but i got tired of buying starters, replacing alarms, rigging clutch switches, and replacing harnesses and did the mod and my car has started ever since
First I'd like to say your build is really inspiring, and is really helping me visualize my 1UZ project, thank you for posting your progress.
I had the starter problem in my 86, I believe the problem lies between the fuse block and the solenoid (dash side of harness), from the sound of it it clicks like it doesn't have enough juice to close the circuit. When ever I put jumper cables on it would start with no issues. I never liked the idea of bypassing the factory system for that relay set up either, but you got to do what you got to do.
Sucks to hear about that kid, but good to hear your not feeling sore about it, I had a couple kids throw a football that hit my car, left a small mark, but they apologized and so no harm done.
