Well just yesterday i noticed a scraping noise coming from the timing belt area. When i pulled off the cover the belt was peeling.

When i first installed it, the belt had a small rip in it, but i needed to drive the car asap, so i just installed the belt. The rip was extremely small.

Now fastforward to today, when i pulled off everything to expose the timing belt, the little pulley that sits behind the crank was broken. The outside ring broke off, and caused the belt to come loose and start scraping the lower timing cover.

I just wanted to know if my negligence when installing the ripped belt contributed to this, or was it just a pulley that was on its last leg.

Has anyone had a pulley come apart like this?
thanks

Yes it happen to me during rebuild , you need to get another timing belt gear for the crank.

improper installation of the belt, or having a tear in it could do it, yes (from experience)

you have to get a new gear from the dealer to fix it...

getting the old pulley of if tough, but the threads in it are the same as the threads for the top timing cover if that helps...
