Breaks Up at WOT

Well guys I have this weird issue that is really bugging me. Sometimes the car will do it and other times it won't. For instance I took the car out at lunch today and the car was pulling hard all the way to red line and was not missing at all.

Then this evening I went to take the car out and whenever I try to run WOT the car just misses and runs like absolute junk. It does not sound like it is pulling timing but rather it is just missing and sounds terrible. I can still boost but only under 50-60 percent throttle.

*Edit* I have also noticed that it will always miss when I drive the car at night. I have no idea if there is a reason behind this or not.

I have brand new NGK 6097's gapped to 0.028. My coilpacks do have cracks in them but they have been fixed with epoxy.

Here is the weird thing. If I throw in a brand new set of plugs the car will not miss and run awesome all night. The next day I will go to drive the car and whenever I try to lay down on the throttle again it will miss.

Is there any possibility that because the Stinger EMS runs wastespark that my coils are not getting enough juice? Has anyone else with a Stinger had these issues?

I had the same problems, but I don't know exactly what fixed it. I added some ground wires, I bought new coilpacks, and it fixed my problem. Is your car running rich or is it tuned pretty good?

To me the car seems decently tuned at WOT(when it is running good) I am running 11.2 AFR at 16psi on the stock twins.

a few things can cause that.
> Arcing coils
> Not enough fuel delivery
> Misaligned TPS
> Bad coil plugs
> Too large plug gaps
> If it is doing during the evening hours when the air is cooler and denser, it may be needing more fuel

10sec......I just remembered that when I switched to the Stinger, for some reason I had to gap my plugs to .022 for higher boost. I had ran .028 all the time before that though with no problems. Try regapping yours to about .025 and see if that helps.

I am going to try and bring down my plug gap to .025 and see if that helps the situation. I guess I will just have to slowly go through each of the things mentioned until the issue is solved. The car runs awesome but it is definitely really annoying that I can't put my foot to the floor.

Yeah it almost sounds like your spark is blowing out at WOT, I second re-gapping the plugs I had the same issue with my old talon when running cop the gap was too big at .028 so I had to gap them down and it helped the issue. I also did add another ground strap.

I may have discovered another culprit to my problem. I compared my timing map to the stock 1JZ timing map and I think I am pulling too much timing under boost. I think it is roughly 8-10 degrees more retarded than the stock ignition map. This is probably the cause of my issues but I will let you know the outcome.

I don't know much about the stinger so I couldn't help you adjust that, but pulled timing up top will cause you the issues that you are describing. I may still recommend to re-gap your plugs down in a little bit too.

What dwell settings are you running and are they compensated for battery voltage?

IJ, I'm sorry, but I don't speak Australian or mechanic. I wish I knew what you were asking me, but to me it sounds like wawawaaaaawaawasaa.:1zhelp:

he's asking how long the coils are allowed to charge for, and are you allowing them to charge longer when battey voltage falls. because you're running them in waste spark, they might not have enough time to properly charge, as they're running twice as often, causing them to not generate a hot enough spark, which is why you need to run a smaller gap on them. If there's enough of a gap between coils firing to alow for it, increase the dwell in higher RPM.

Injector pulsewidths should also be adjusted for battery voltage too guys :)

Edit: doesn't the stock ignitor handle dwell on its own?

Dunno on a Stinger 1J combination that's why I was asking ;)

IJ, I could be pulling this all out of my ass, but I THINK that the JZ ignitor handles dwell itself, based on feedback from the coil and plug (ressitance across spark plug) to calculate charge density within the cyinders, and adjust dwell accordingly.

I might be getting confused with my old saab though.

One way to tell, does the 1JZ respond negatively to capacitive plugs as opposed to ressitive ones?
